Hi guys,

I have eight cards. Many different brands. Two of them are Transcend 1GB cards. The 40GB Compact Drive PSD PD6A works fine with every card but with Transcend it gives an error midway through card - at different points every time.

Anybody experience this?

Evrim,

I have a new PD6A drive lout of the box, that gives a #10 error "The hard disk is not FAT32 file system" when I attempt to copy from IBM Microdrive (1GB) and a CF SanDisk Ultra II (1GB), both formatted in the camera (Fuji S2 PRO) as Fat16. 3hdigital support informed me that I need to format the PD6A drive first, but unable to do so on my Windows XP prof computer.
How did you format your drive?

They also attached a file "Formater.RAR" that is supposed to open as "Formater.EXE" but was not able to do so on my computer.
Can you help?
Thank you,
Adrian Levesque

Hi,

YOu need WinRar Application to uncompress the file.

Then you use Formatter.exe to format the HDD if larger than 32GB or you can use WinExplorer if less than 32GB.

Thanks.

There have been some problems reported with Transcend cards on other PSDs...like the TRIPPER. I never had a problem with my 512MB 45x card on my TRIPPER. Contact Transcend, I believe there might have been a firmware upgrade to the memory card (is that possible) that helped some folks.

Sorry to hear about the compatability problems on this new machine. I was hoping for the best for this new beast.

What a coincidence - I just ordered a PD6X and was about to get a 1 GB Transcend 45x. I don't suppose anyone tried that combo yet, right?

Where did you get the "X" model from?

If your drive is larger than 32GB, you can't format it with Windows. It sounds like they tried to send you a formater program. It has been compressed in .rar format (kind of like another form of .zip). Get a program called WinRAR to de-comress it (try google).

After receiving the unit I only tried my RiData cards; will try Transcend tonight (I have two) and let you know.

Where did you get the "X" model from?
From someone in Singapore who sends stuff over to the Netherlands. But I haven't got it yet, and I'll only know for certain whether it's the X model when/if it arrives mid next week. Plus the fact that I'll be leaving on holiday next friday - not much time to test everything. Exciting times ...

A sure way to know it is an "X" model is the fact that there is now a door on the media slot access end instead of a pop off cover and there are two additional navigation buttons on the front. Otherwise, I am told it looks just like the other one.

Just tried the PD6A on two Transcend 1Gb compact flash cards (labeled 45x) and I can confirm they worked. I formatted the cards in my camera (Canon 1D) and copied the files to the card.

Some timings using 225 files 4Mb each:
RiData 1Gb --> PSD 3:10 (4.74 Mb/s)
Transcend 1Gb --> PSD 3:15 (4.62 Mb/s)
PSD --> Laptop 2:39 (5.66 Mb/s)
Transcend 1Gb with Delkin cardbus 32 --> laptop 5:27 (2.75 Mb/s)

Does 1D format cards in a different way than 10D, like FAT 16 vs 32?

Hi All,
Kudos to mydigitaldiscount.com for taking back my drive and repairing it.

This is the second time that I purchase from this company. I am very satisfied with their prompt service and feel that all of you should be made aware of this.
