Foggy SF Bay Bridge from Above

First of all great shot...

So.. the stupid question is: Is the bridge one way only, since all cars are driving in the same direction?

There are no stupid questions, just stupid answers ;-)

The SF-Oakland Bay Bridge is 2 levels, one way in each direction. The Golden Gate bridge is 2 directions on one level.

ASIDE: Whenever I post a bay bridge picture someone always assumes it is the Golden Gate, as happened again in this thread. They do have similar features..

Hey Anand-

Thanks for turning me on to the yahoo group. I just joined (bruboy99 is moi).

I'm glad there is already a group thing going on. Weekends are hard for me because I have 2 year old twin girls and weekends are the only decent block of time I get to spend with my family. I do non-family things occasionally on the weekends so maybe we can put together a downtown SF outing for a future weekend.

I often look for reflection shots downtown and know of some prime locations all within 4 or 5 blocks of each other. I have several new reflection images I need to add to my website, but there are quite a few up already at http://www.brucelynn.com if you are interested.

Oh, I can do it this Sunday.

Are you aware of this group?

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SFBay_D70/

We are 25 already :)

If we are in agreement, we can meet this Sunday in the city.

Actually, a few of us are going through a photoshop class in
Michael Soo's (the guy who posted below, a great photographer -
just that he shoots with a Canon DR :)) home this Saturday.

Yeah, need to break out of the shackles.

Let us plan this out some other time.

I have seen your reflection photos and I have watched your website from then on :)

I have a 4 month old daughter, she and her mom are visiting my parents and her parents now. I have a month of free time ;), hence all the photography.

Your daughter is 4 months old? I believe Congrats are still in order. You are probably starting to get some sleep again, especially with them, being away ;-)

How free is free Anand? I can find free time between/after/before appointments during the week easier than I can find weekend time. How about meeting in downtown sf on a weekday? I'm there tomorrow actually, can you be?

Just like I want to go to New York. I live a half hour from San Francisco so almost all of my building shots are from there. When you go somewhere else you see things anew and you strive to capture that feeling with your camera. When you are shooting the same thing over and over, day in and day out, it takes more work to see it anew. In that way I guess it is like being married. ;-)

Great shot! I really like the perspective. Why, it makes me want to
go to California! :)

I have taken pics of the skyline from there, would make a fantastic pano. I thought it was treasure island; no?

Yesterday I tried to get this shot but the nice policeman said "NO
PICTURES" and cited the fact that I was illegally parked. I
couldn't agrue with that so I moved on. Today I went back because
the fog on the bay was beautiful and I was hoping for a chance to
shoot it. This time I stopped the car on the road directly over
the bridge and shot out of my passenger window. After I took the
shot there were 2 cars trying to get around me so I had to leave
pronto.

This shot was taken at f13, 1/60th of a second with my Tamron
28-300 lens. I made a Dodge and Burn adjustment layer whcih I used
to make the bridge pop a bit and the buildings in the background
look more interesting.

Thanks for looking..

The island that the bridge traffic tunnel goes through is called Yerba Buena Island (San Francisco was called Yerba Buena before it got remarketed long ago). The man made island that is attached to YBI is called Treasure Island and was made for the 1939 Worlds Fair. Info from the San Francisco Museum here: http://www.sfmuseum.net/hist5/ggie.html .

I can stretch some thing tomorrow. Tell me what time. I may have to work other hours to compensate, but it is worth it ;-) If it is the late afternoon, yes, it is a no brainer.

Yeah, my daughter and D70 came almost together :) I am spending most of time in front of the PC, not sleeping much.

How about Noon Anand? I only have a couple of hours free but it would be fun to meet you and find some photo ops.

How about meeting at the very end of Market street, where (when driving)you have to veer right, then left to get to the embarcadero. I'll just look for the guy who has a granade launcher cleverly disguised as a D70 ;-)

Let me know.

I have been shooting San Francisco area locations for over 20 years(Born and raised on the Peninsula). It use to be fun,but not any more !!!. Now you have to have a permit to shoot everything and anything. Treasure Island use to be a Navy Base years ago,but the other half of the Island is part of the Coast Guard. If you were able to stop there for a quickie shot, you were lucky....Was it SF Pd who told you to leave,or Navy/Coast Guard personal?.
Its a great shot !!!
