michaelthorne has left the building :)

Wanted to let people know that Mike emailed me to let me know that
his last OT post, got him in hot water with Phil, and he got
banned. He said to tell you: "later, take care and I'll be back!"

Personal opinion - Mike's a good guy. His off topic post, rather
they belong here or not, are usually very interesting and
entertaining, he just picked the wrong topic this time :)
Hopefully, he will be allowed back.
Well, I dont know. Michael Thorne really lost it in my books when he posted a violently anti-gay comment here - Totally out of line, and that should have got him banned for good IMHO.

Ever hear the phrase "Don't throw stones in a glass house?"

You yourself are breaking the forum rules by including a link to your
"professional" website in your signature. Same with alot of other folks
here.... ahem. See the forum rules... no advertising allowed.

I read MThorns' rant, and it was crazy. Maybe he was just howling at
the moon or whatever, but this forum is about the 300D/Kiss afterall.
Photography!

I visit here less and less.

And along with him went the thread. While it was OT (although
obviously intellectual property threads have some relevance to
photography) I for one am pretty POed that the thread was deleted
without any notice posted to the forum. I put thought into my
replies in that thread. While I have very different views about
intellectual property and art than most people here, it seems, I
enjoyed the discussion and am sorry to see it go. Deleting threads
like this shows a lack or respect for the posters.

Before anyone replies with a "this is Phil's site" message, yes I
know as the owner here he is god and can do as he pleases. That
doens't make it nice, or right. It gives me one message: don't
bother posting anything I care about here, or put much thought in
messages. Continue doing as I have been doing: scan for the
occasional tid-bit of useful info, post the occasional message when
I have an answer someone may be looking for, but don't care or get
involved in the forum as a whole.

Anyone know of a good, active, forum to read? rec.photo.digital is
worse than average, and that's saying a lot for usenet!

Posting many pictures - Do not post many pictures in one message, instead post a link to a gallery. Posting several messages with just one image in each in a short period will be treated as SPAM - it will be deleted.

Hi 'drhoads',
I totally agree that some folks post too many pictures in a post.
Linking to a gallery is far better (and more considerate!).

Smaller file sizes and better jpeg compression skills would be nice too.

Ever hear the phrase "Don't throw stones in a glass house?"
Yes. It might apply if I claimed innocence, but since I don't...

I have a link to the home page of my site. That has links to my photo galleries, my professional services site, and my personal site. In turn those have links to pet photos, "about me" type pages, my adult site, and some businesses/people/groups I am affiliated with. In turn those have links to...

If you consider that breaking forum rules, that's fine with me. I don't. If you don't like it, report it to Phil.

I think intellectiual property is very on-topic for a photography forum, actually. Your personal opinion of another poster is your opinion, and while you may feel it acceptable to make personal remarks about him I don't.
I visit here less and less.
So do I. Actually its not so much visit less as care less, and don't spend any particular effort on contributing here.

I'm kind of sorry to see the guy go. He was alternately amusing,
entertaining, frustrating, and maddening.
Me too. I liked the guy's passion. No guessing about him, you knew where he stood. And I felt there was some depth there, in the sense that he really thought about somethings. The deleted thread to which he posted "Hey, where did my thread go?" a few weeks ago is the example I recall. He didn't parrot any positions, he arrived at them through his own experience and thought. They may not have been mainstream, popular, or politically correct, or even simply correct, but they were real. I respect that more than any party line.
