promaster 28-200

hi all. is the promaster 28-200 a good lens? tia lisa1
Promaster are almost always rebadged Sigma's, typically at least a generation older than Sigma's current offerings. While the newer 28-200's are not bad, I'd be leary of an older one. If you get a really good price I'd consider it, otherwise I'd go for one of the new 28-200s. Both the sigma and the Tamron have gotten decent reviews, but keep in mind, due to the large zoom range, it there will be some trade offs. You usually have a soft image at 200mm, some distortion issues at 28mm but the range in between the extemes is often very good.

They are rebadged Tamrons. Quantaray lenses from Ritz/Wolf are rebadged Sigmas. At least the ones I've seen or owned. I have one of the Promaster 70-300 lenses and it is an exact copy of the Tamron 70-300 LD except for the logo.

I'm turned around here........ :) I had it backwards, I knew they were a rebadge. The interesting thing is Pentax also rebadges too. I know their 100/3.5 macro is a Cosina, but with the addition of SMC coatings. I believe thier 28-200 offering is also the same rebadged Tamron. That would be the one of the best choices in a 28-200 if nothing else, for the coatings.
