Greetings

I found a used 70-200VR yesterday and I heard a voice saying something like "my preciousssss", and I just had to have it muahahahahaaa... sory. Anyway, I'm still learning how to use the beast, but it sure is a lovely piece of glass.

I took it to Yoyogi Park this afternoon to catch some of the wonderful faces that fetch up there on a Sunday; here's a selection.

Any comments or suggestions on cropping etc will be very gratefully received. Much to learn I have.

Me, and my shaaaaaaaa... doh!

Oh at last, a Nikon!

Leslie Ash anyone?

You! Yes you; stand still laddie!

Neil,

Also any recommendations on where to buy second hand lenses in Tokyo would be appreciated.

I guess that you have found a good place given that this week you bought a 70-200VR and last week a Micro Nikkor 60mm.

Thank you very much!

Cheers,

Justin

cool shots. Great place to be to catch such characters.

Hard lens to use distance wise. All shots semm to be very tightly ctopped. Girls face in 3rd picture seems to be out of focus. You may want to halpf-press on the fase and pan down to the body before triggering the shot.
Have fun with the new toy :)
Steve.

Hello There

I paid 165,000 yen for a lens that apart from a damaged lens hood, is spotless. This comes with a 6 month warranty, which I think is pretty good value, especially as second hand items are as rare as hens teeth. They sell new for around 220,000yen, so I'm very pleased.

Hey Justin

I actually bought them from two different shops. The 60mm I bought from MAP Camera, and the VR from Fujiya. There are a lot of used camera shops in Tokyo, but I use these two because the staff are generally very nice and helpful, and the prices and after sales service very good.

Are you familiar with Tokyo? I'll be happy to give you easy directions if you like.

Cheers

Hiya Steve

Thanks for your comments and feedback. I purposely shot tight as I wanted to see what the VR could do with face and eye detail. Apart from which, for some of the ladies, there was usually an unseemly scrum of scruffy, spotty smudgers getting shots, so I often had to compose and shoot very rapidly.

I have to say, the focus on the VR was quick and solid, but I still screwed up plenty. I still need lots of practice yet to equal some of the fab shots I've seen on this forum, but bugger me it's fun :)

Cheers

Hi Neil,

Thanks for the info. It is good to know that your experiences have been good at those stores.

I know and have visited MAP Camera as they have a wide selection (their web-site is great), I found the staff nice and helpful there but haven't yet bought anything yet.

I haven't been to Fujiya yet (but will go there soon as I get the chance)!

Cheers,

Justin
