-- I know this has to be talked about in the forum somewere, but can't find. Has anyone got info (or know where I can find it) on how much it costs per print (8.5x11), lets say at 1400dpi. I'm not good at math and it appears that it will take someone with good math skills to figure out the combination of ink usage.

Thanks in advance!

I kept track up to about 30,000 square inches of print. I got about 1000 square inches per average cartridge (the light inks were used faster). Assuming $10 per cartridge, that comes out to $0.80 for an 8x10 print.

Leon Wittwer,

Is the 1000 square inches per cartridge for the sum of all colors used in that area? Another way of asking this is did you use 30 cartridges total to print the 30,000 square inches? Was all the printing photos?

Thanks,
Alice

there seems to be a lot of ways people have got to an answer on this. All I have seen are around £1 Uk or$1 USA for a borderless a4 print, double for a3 etc. The other guide line seems to be 1ml of ink per A4 and that you get approx (and this is another big debate) 12ml usable a cartridge. That dosnt include wastage or proof printing. So with that in account you end up with the approx £1/$1 rate. Its pretty obvious why so many take the cis route.

Leon: I concur. I'm getting 1100 sq inch / cartridge with matte paper and the new profiles and got 1000 when I was using a mix of RC and matte with the original profiles.

ps: I'm intrigued: what the heck is behind you with the pictures on a slant on your home page?

Yes. About half was on Enhance Matte paper and half was on Premium Luster. I did not notice any significant difference in ink usage between the two. I also saw that the light inks were used faster than the "dark" inks.
Thanks,

If you are referring to what is out the window, you are seeing the Superstition Mountains in Arizona. I'm in my winter home in Apache Junction, Arizona. If you are referring to the display board, one print is from Zion Nat'l Park and one is a sunrise shot.

Apparently, the display board: is it just a flat surface for setting prints on?

$3.65 ink cost for each 12.5 x 18.5 printed area. This is US$ and is an average over 120 prints. Prints with more than average amounts of white will cost less and those with large expances of color will cost more.

Thanks Leon and others for you time and input. I had guessed around $1 for (8x10) usage, so not too far off. The new 4000 is looking good with the larger carts = less $$ per print.

Thanks Again,
Carlton
When in Arizona, I live in a recreational vehicle park. To
entertain other park folks, I display prints in the local
clubhouse, changing the display every couple of weeks or so. That
is one of my displays. The display board is common foam board that
you can get in office supply stores.

I'm sure you will like the 4000 but, unless you print an awful lot of stuff, the difference in price for the 4000 will still make that a more expensive options. Besides, the larger carts won't necessarily make printing less expensive per square inch of print. Time will tell, though.
Thanks Again,
Carlton
