Hi All,

As not many people have posted pictures lately, I thought it might be fun to see some of the images people took for but didn't enter in the water competition. Here are a few of mine, strictly in the order in which they were taken.

Hi Flick,

I'd post a few of my own but don't have web space. I've got a similar duck shot caught asleep. He's on one foot and on the edge of a water feature so it has his reflection. I was thinking of replacing 'finding nemo' with it. Wish there was some place with free web space so I could upload some.

I like the thing in the water shot. I assume some sort of left over of a boat ruder?

Regards

Paul

Thanks :-)

Which water one did you mean, with the residue? If the first one, then that's a little man made waterfall thing where the canal feeds into a part of the river running parallel, so the dark bit is just where there's something on the bottom i guess.

Can't you remove something from your web space to make room? We get free web-space with our broadband, and I swap things around. I only use it to upload for sites like this.

Hi Flick,

I don't think I have any space with my broadband but I will ask. I mean the second one.

Hi All,

I like your reed shot Albert, also the water sprinkler. I'm almost thinking to replace the Nemo shot with my duck shot. Just can't quite make my mind up! Seems ashame so many duck shots have gone to waste! I guess they seem obvious when you think about water! And no one like to do the obvious!

Couldn't resist, seems a shame now not to include a duck shot!

Thanks Paul!

I liked that reed shot too... AND the sprinkler. The sprinkler is such an old west look so I really debated.
I see you got your Duck shot in .

Good job!

I assume you shot RAW and I wonder about the highlights in the first picture.

If you bracket that image so that you are sure that you get no blown highlights and then put the second image where the highlights are blown but you have some detail in the dark shadows, with the image with detail in the highlights, I think you would improve the picture.

I do like #1 though and think it would make a good transparent film image. On a window it would look spectacular-no pun intended.

Thanks for the advice Walter. you're right, i should have bracketed. We were working quickly on a very crowded tow path, so it was restricting, but I'd like to go back and try again when it's quieter. That's why it was a reject.

I'm going to post some studio shots soon, ones i did today at Chas's house, the first since college several years ago, and the first ever using the meter in the camera for studio flash instead of medium or large format and a flash meter, so i'd very much value your advice....i fact i want heavy criticism as I need to learn.

Oh, yes, it was RAW.

Concerning portraits with the Kodak.

If you can, check the moire off of the models clothing. On the highest magnification of the LCD you can usually see it ifyou look for it on the shirt or sweater. The resolution is high and there will be a distance with almost every piece of clothing a person can wear, that will give you moire fringing. Just move a little back or forward or , with a zoom, make sure you don't shoot all your shots at the wrong focal length to give you that rainbow.

Of course rainbows are nice but, you probably don't want them to appear in circles around a female model's boobs, for example...

Good luck, looking forward to the shots.
