8MP D70?

I had a friend of mine tell me that someone at Best Buy told him that Nikon was increasing the D70 to 8 MP by the end of the year. I did a search on this forum to find any threads on this and found none.

Has anybody heard any news on this or is it another clueless salesperson giving bad information?

By far the last place I would go for info. Any place that can sell me a D-SLR, a music CD, a refrigerator, a candy bar and a coke while they install a car stereo in my car is going to be the wrong place to ask questions about what Nikon is going to do in the future.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what's the next logical step for Nikon to take as follow up to the successful D70 - 6 megapixel camera. Sony came out with the P150 - 7 megapixel Cyber-Shot point-n-shoot.

That's the last place I'd go to for info regarding Nikon's future plans. If it was a place like B&H then it would certainly be more beleivable. However, the truth of the matter is that Nikons next camera will PROBABLY be:

-a D100 successor...probably a D200
-competition to Canon's upcoming 10D replacement (8mp?)

I work at Best Buy, in the digital camera dept. (We call it Digital Imaging). I have not heard anything like this, but I'll check at work tomorrow. If this guys knowledge was based on training or anything he gained from work, I'll know it too. It might have been speculation on his part. We usually don't learn about new products any earlier than everybody else.
