I'm just wondering what the trend is out there, as this point came up in a post today.

I've always used my left eye on the viewfinder. Shooting action, sports or video, I often keep my right eye open so I can pick up the off-lens action and be ready for it.

Let's hear from others. Give us your handedness and your eye preference.
(I'm hoping I'm not weird!)

Right hand, left eye.

I am also right handed, but use my left eye for the viewfinder (dominant eye).

Unfortunately this is quite cumbersome as the free right eye view is blocked by the camera body. It also makes the controls such as the rear wheel, difficult to operate.

One solution I've found to this problem is using the large eyecup EP-2, which helps keep the camera body away from the face and makes all the controls MUCH easier to use.

I have only used my right eye for this, for 40 years now.

to wink my righr eye, I've always shot right eyed (cameras, guns, whatever). I do, sometimes, keep the left eye open to try and pickup on the action if the situation warrents.

Same here. I have bad astigmatism in my right.
Unfortunately this is quite cumbersome as the free right eye view
is blocked by the camera body. It also makes the controls such as
the rear wheel, difficult to operate.
It made it harder for me to learn to qualify on the M-16 in Air Force basic training (1969) as well. The Nikon F3HP was the only camera I owned that wasn't so bad in that regard.
One solution I've found to this problem is using the large eyecup
EP-2, which helps keep the camera body away from the face and makes
all the controls MUCH easier to use.
That works well for me, too.

Right handed, right eyed but dress to the left!!!

When I took the wakeboarding pics I posted a few weeks ago I tried keeping my left eye open for a wider view on what was happening even though I was using the left hand focus point in C-AF mode and was tracking my subject constantly.

If you havent seen the wakeboarding shots they are on my Pbase account (see below for link).

kind regards

I must be the weirdest at this,

I am left handed and use my right eye for the camera. However when shooting guns, etc I use my left eye and I am actually quite good (can hit a good grouping on a 100m target with open sites)

Hi,

Well I'm left handed so I'm also left I dominate (Did I spell that right?)

I'm thinking seriously of getting the E1 (Money is holding me back ie. I'm in the middle of possibly relocating to a new area.... so waiting for my company hence £££££ or $$$$)

What is the E1 like for left handers?
(Sorry I've replied after the second post so may have missed replies).

cheers

Andrew

taught me, a right hander, to shoot both pool and a gun. Use my left eye for those. That carried over on to cameras. Then I lost my right eye. All to the good. Can still shoot - in three ways. :-)))

I'm your mirror image, Jeff, but probably not as keen with a gun. Right handed, use my left eye for the camera or billiards, but the right eye for shooting with a gun. Learned to shoot a gun before the astigmatism in my right eye got bad, so it's ingrained.

I use my left eye with SLR-type cameras

I use my right eye with rangefinders (i.e., Leica).
