In and email today from ACDSee they advised me that they do not currently support the Canon RAW file format:( They asked me to send them an example photo, which I will do, so they can give it to research to see if they could include such support in the future.

Will other ACDSee users please go to http://www.acdnet.com/english/support/tech-support-form.asp and ask them to suppport our RAW format?

Thank you very much for any messages you send to ACDSee. I hope they hurry up and support RAW for us. If they don't I will have to switch to a different program which I really don't want to do.

Take care and happy shooting, Greg

Hello Greg,

I have contacted the people at ACDSee about an SDK. They have such a nice package and a nice interface, I would love to be able to add CRW preview support (with full EXIF data) to ACDSee.

I'll see what they say.

Greg, I have not tried this, but Paintshop pro claims to open a .raw format file. PSP is an excellent program, with batch convert of file formats. If you have an example file (keep it small) I will try to open it.

of course, being new to this forum, I made a rash assumption that raw meant raw, not crw. Never mind.

Hi JPM,

I too think ACDSee is a great product. I just hope they listen to us and allow it to use .crw files soon.

Just asked ACD to support the RAW format of the G1.

I do use ACDSee for personnal and professionnal use, and no need of other pic manager...

RAW is the designatory name of the TYPE of file whilst .crw is the used extension for the processed file. Same thing in a way but different !!!
Crazy explanation I know but it is that.!!

What the heck does that mean? What's the difference between raw
and crw?

Hi,

ACDSee is super fast and truly user friendly. It has few draw backs when it comes to Canon Digital Photography,

These are my suggestions.

1. Should support Canon RAW format (but canon SDK's to decode is really slow. Canon cannot do it properly in a faster way although they do the conversion inside the camera fast enough. Canon software programmers are useless.)

2. ACDSee should properly decode the Canon camera EXIF. Currently they don't do it properly they show lots of HEX characters instead of decoding them properly.

3. There should be a mode in which they display the picture and on a corner should display the exif information. Check out the PIE program they nicely do it but still all Canon EXIF data is not fully extracted.

If they can make these changes ACDSee will be flying.

Thank you JF and John for the support. Samath, have you made those excellent suggestions direct to ACDSee?

Let's hope this interest results in product improvements for Canon users of
ACDSee like us:)

Thanks again and happy shooting, Greg

Hi everyone who has replied to my original post,

My wife is in the hospital with a possible heart attack (#2 in 11 months?). They are doing a cath this afternoon to check it out. Therefore, I do not know when I will be able to send a .crw photo to ACDSee for them to give to their technical folks.

Can one of you email ACDSee with a .crw photo that they can use for technical purposes? If you received a reply from ACDSee to your original email it would be best to attach the photo to a reply email back to them explaining that you wanted them to have a .crw photo to experiment with.

I am sorry to let this group down like this but I do not know when I will be able to send ACDSee a .crw photo. Thanks for any assistance anyone can provide.

I am headed back to the hospital in a little while. I do not know when I will be back on this great forum again but I hope it will be pretty soon. She is a strong woman with tremendous faith and I am confident she will bounce back quickly.
