Anyone know if any of those portable storage devices like the Delkin Picture Pad or the Nixvue support Pentax RAW files?

I'm thinking something like this would be useful at a wedding for backing up the files, but if it doesn't support Pentax RAW, there's no point in having it!

Thanks,
Ed

I think it should, as long as it can support 8.3 file format it should not have any problem.

I carried 8 LBS laptop as my storage, I have never use those portable storage devices.

Hi Ed. I use a StorageBank Multi Media card reader/ harddrive case, which can take any 2.5" harddrive. I have had no issues at all uploading PEFs to the drive. I would think the only issue on some of the portable harddrive/card readers would be on those which have a small LCD for review. Perhaps they wouldn't be able to let you preview your photos, but I would still think they will allow you to store and transfer the RAWs.

I do remember reading a post on the "storage" forum that said one device with an LCD did preview PEF files.

I forgot to add, look at the "storage" forum and note all the problems with PSD, I tried 3 different brands that burned CD's, all are VERY VERY slow..... and all had bugs, I returned all of them, gave up and decided to stick with my IBM ThinkPad T20 laptop with built in CD burner and a fast CF reader, the "Delkin CardBus 32 Adapter". I know it isn't as small or as portable as a PSD, but at least it works, it's fast and above all reliable

I am using the Vosonic X's-Drive Pro VP300, with a 80GB disk. Works just fine with .PEF - stored 13GB on my last trip.

Ed,

My understanding is that most of these devices should allow transfer and storage of just about any file type. The problem lies in these PSDs that have the small LCD displays. Only a few devices support camera raw files in allowing display on the device. So while you should be able to see the name of the file and that it is stored on the device, you most likely can't open the file internally. The only PSD that I know of that can display PEF files internally on it's monitor are the Flashtrax units.

For some reason ISO 9960 comes to mind, this is a standard for file systems that I think most of these devices use. But this is more for naming and folder structure than anything else.

Thanks Wally. Reliability is a big issue. No sense trying to make a back up copy when the device runs the risk of frying my CF Card or something!

I keep researching this.

The idea of the one with the small viewfinder seemed like a good one...
I'll have to research this further, thanks for all the help!
