getting better with these bees....old 55mm micro 2.8 lens...manual focus...using histogram for exposure....these are at f11-f16...much better depth of field than my last attempt....used flash for more light....

neighbors think I am "peeping Tom", however, crawling around in bushes...need to break down and get longer macro lens.....

comments appreciated....:-) M

WOW! Good crisp details in the bees. I especially like them with the flowers at the top.

These are some of the sharpest marco pics I have seen posted. The
hair detail is fabulous, as well as composition and color.
Definetly PRO quality product. I'm jealous but inspired to try
harder with my 105.

Thanks for your comments....the secret is the f-stop, I have discovered by trial and error and learning from others here....:-) M

Wonderful shots - I'm a big fan of little bugs! I'm guessing this has to be tripod work? Do you just focus against the stamen and wait for the little critter to show up?

Thanks
Kev
I need you to lift my spirits. I missed UPS with my 105 macro and
SB800 on Friday -sigh!. I want to be doing similar shots. Please
explain how you did the manual focus. Did you set distance and
rock the camera. What flash and settings.

Great shots. Really inspiring.

Thanks for your nice comments....

This lens only goes to 1:2 without help....usually I set it for that and rock back and forth....I use the internal flash on full power and the method of Davexl with a paper diffuser http://www.pbase.com/davexl/d70macro in between, I dodge the beeees........;-)) M

These are handheld unfortunately (usually have to chase the bees and hope they don't get mad)....when I see a likely victim I move in and start snapin' ....I try to focus on the bee, face first, and the flowers just "happen".....usually use 1/250......thanks.....:-) M

Great photos, bright and detailed. They seem somewhat grainy to me, though I don't browse macro posts often, so maybe they're supposed to look like that. Is that from the camera or post-processing effect?

Jay
One bump for the evening group....critique appreciated..:-)) M

I suspect post-processing, as they were cropped to increase magnification....thanks for looking........:-)) M
