Actually it isn't a bee. It's a fly that looks similiar to a bee so that birds and other animals won't dare to attack it.

Beautiful pictures and super detail. Were you using a closeup lens?
No closeup or other addon-lenses have been used.
But there is a nice trick about the macro-mode:

While in macro-mode zoom in to exyctly 2.8 (zoom to 3 and than a tick back). The camera can still focus and you can get even closer than the normal minimum distance. It works great and you can get really close. (even below 1 centimeter).

Wonderful shots! I echo what Glenn said about your skill and artistry. I marvel that you did these without a closeup lens? Very well done! If these are your "getting familiar" shots, Lord help us when you become experienced! ;-) Keep posting, though, so we can all follow your progress.

Very nice shots indeed alrau !

Other than that, my only comment would be : get yourself a good close up lens and astonish us ! ;o)

Hi alrau, glad you're aboard. Fantistic pictures---can't believe you call yourself a novice. Beautiful focusing, beautiful color etc. I only have the FZ1v2 but supposedly mine could do the same----all I lack is the talent. Thanks also for the tip---I'll add that to my little black book. Looking forward to your next posts.

Thanks for sharing, Gene

Very nice! Welcome to the forum.

(And people were complaining this was an FZ10 forum, etc.) You and others are showing that the FZ1 and FZ2 aren't obsolete at all, and these are wonderful examples.

Great images!

So how close were you? And how did you keep these critters from flying/jumping/etc. away from you before you can take their picture?

Thanks

Will

Must be doing something wrong. I tried your suggestion to go to 2.8 zoom in macro mode, but I can't seem to focus closer than about 20 cm.

hmm just zoom in to 3, then a bit back. Make sure you are in Macromaode. Are you using a FZ2 ? I don't know if it works for the
FZ1 and FZ10..

The first three pics: I was just a few centimeters away.
Maybe 3 centimeters from the dragonfly.
4 or 5 centimeters from the flower/fly.
I got very close to the spider, about 1 centimeter. It's a really small
spider. It appears much bigger on the picture.

The frog was shot from about 1.20 m away at full 420mm zoom and
a tripod.

Thanks for all the kind comments btw. :)

No luck, your method doesn't seem to work with my FZ1v2. This must be a FZ2 characteristic that the FZ1 upgrade didn't take care of. I guess I will still have to use the Nikon 6T to get such nice close-ups.

Gene,

I vaguely recall that John Reed verified that this worked on his FZ1v.2. I did a quick search but didn't find the thread. Maybe he'll chime in.

John, have I lost even more of my mind or didn't you try and verify this some months back?
