That wouldn't be a big disappointment to me, that would be exactly what I want.

Well my uncle's second wife's brother said that he was at 31 Flavors last night and overheard a guy who was a friend of a Canon rep who said that it would have a 12MP sensor and 128 point AF, so there!

I am not sure why having more pixels is so great. I print to A3 and 30x20 and would not wish to go any larger. I do not think many here print bigger either.

Surely the only thing that a bigger mp camera does for you is forces you to upgrade your pc, compact flash cards etc and cost you a whole load more money. I hope they do not upgrade the 10D for another year!

Thats my gripe.

I don't understand why folks want 8 megs if it'll be on a 1.6 sensor since it'll increase noise and/or increase the strength of the AA filter (8 megs on a 1.3 sensor would be OK, I guess, but not essential). The Achilles heel of the 10D is it's focusing. It's useless for such things as birds in flight, etc. and can be imprecise even under the best of circumstances given the fact that the sensors are larger than that indicated in the view finder. A 45 point AF system is about the only thing that'd get me to upgrade.

Having said all that, I think your guy is wrong and that we'll see a digital version of the newish Canon 7N (7 AF points).

CHeers!

I know Im new here, but I've noticed an awful lot of speculation and conjecture regarding replacing this and improving that... and that said I'm fine with Canon replacing the 10-D. But I feel compelled to say that I really feel the more stuff they cram into the cameras they sell us, the less photographic knowledge and skill the people behind the camera need to take great pics. I remember when a good photographer got between 3 and 5 "hits" on a roll of 36 exposures. I think that with the advent of Digital, we have moved into an era of what I call "saturation photography"... just shoot 1000 shots on your 2GB card and delete 998 of them later. I for one am going to keep my 10-D, Im going to study it in depth, learn its nuances, shortcomings, and limitations, and teach myself to take great pics using its strengths AND weaknesses. Anyone agree or think Im an idiot?

youre an idot.

no im just kidding - Heee!
The first two weeks i got my camera i took 7,000 shots.

400 were "hits" - thats not much of a percentage.

now a year later - Ive become obsessed with making this camera work for me and ive had to learn it inside and out.

i think i have improved SO MUCH over the last year. Its because ive been able to shoot so many many times and learn from my mistakes - and because ive studied this camera and this board like crazy.

I LOVE my 10D!!!! I dont need more than what it offers me right now. But I also LOVE new technology - so im always interested in whats newer and better.

Id love to say I love new technology too, but I also believe in the economic strategy of planned obsolescence ( I deserve a medal for spelling that correctly) and all I ever become reading these threads of the new and upcoming is frustrated that the 2200 I spent collectively on my camera is going to be replaced by something far better 6 months later. That's where my resolve to make my 10-D work for me comes from.

It's amazing how Photo store employees know everything. There are dozens of magazines, newspapers, and web sites scouring the earth for news on new cameras, and your Photo store employee "scooped" the world. Amazing! You should count yourself lucky to have such a source. One nice thing about being privvy to such closely held information... it makes all of us feel better, and we'll become better photographers for knowing this satisfying piece of information.

Of course, I can't believe that I didn't hear it first from my local Photo store employees. Normally, they get all the juiciest info first.

Hold the phone!!!!! In fact, I just received a phone call from my local Photo store source, and they told me that the new 10D will have a 12megapixel sensor, and will have 239 point AF. Wow! I'm going to line up so I can get the 1st one. It'll make everyone a MUCH better photographer. You better start buying hard drives! 12 megapixel! Wow! All of the 1Dmk2 buyers are going to be upset.

No, I totally agree with you.

And I can say that your observation is true, especially at Betterphoto.com and Photo.net. Many of the Monthy winners at Betterphoto.com features winning photos made with consumer digicams, such as Powershot Series and Coolpix -- and winning photos taken with professional dSLRs are few.

There is no doubt that a dSLR grants the photographer more control and technique that comes with the camera, but so far it is not being matched with the photographic skill and knowledge.

I've seen folks rave and boast about their new L series lens and professional EOS dSLRs (1Ds and 1D's), but that's fine by me. I also own L series lens and a 10D, but I have produced two monthy winners and sold other photos in auctions to raise funds for non-profit organization.

I work in a larger retail store, and when looking up stock, I saw a new entry in Canons list. The only description says that its a Canon EOS 20D w/ EF-S 18-55 kit

It has a retail of 1599.99

Hope this helps out some

Good point. My mom used to work at FotoMat. I'll give her a call and see if she's heard anything about a replacement for the 10D :-)
