If you find yourself in the pits Sunday, I always try to make the
award ceremony under the announcers tower after each heat. It's
great to catch the interplay of the owners and drivers that often
happens around there. Also when/if they do draws for lane choice.
Maybe you'll catch me first (

). Though I cut off my long ponytail back in '77, the freak in me
has never died so I'm happy to hear you're letting your freak flag
fly as the song said.
This is my first year with a digital SLR so I'm really looking
forward to it. Even though I don't have any L glass yet, I'm sure
learning a lot and improving my shooting skills when I don't have
the constraint of film/processing cost.
Does this mean you'll be out there catching the boats coming out of
turn two and flying down the back straight? To say nothing of
trying to catch the Blue Angels nose to nose in the elusive
opposing flyby. With that big a boat it'd be easy to set up a
tripod and long lens if you had one. I tried to rent a telephoto
from Glazers two months ago but they were already reserved. I'd ask
you to tell your friend I'd be the butler for the day if I could
bring my camera but....I'm going to be wandering around the pits
taking shots.
With Budweiser pulling their sponsorship I'm worried this might be
the end of Unlimited Hydros as we know it. I don't want to miss it.
The whole scene in the pits is very intimate insanity and a blast
to watch.
I hope you get to go out and can post some shots afterward. I sure
hope to get some to post myself.
