Hi all

Continuing the tradition of telling a bit about ourselves, let’s reveal our most kept secret :)

And why not Yehuda? It seems like a good way to encourage our creativity, I had fun walking around looking for the right number and my boss was quit surprised when I took the price-tag thingy :)

But do as you wish though I, for one, would love to see what you can do with the topic.

Hi, Mel,

Or maybe you're 168 year old.

It's properly spelled San Jacinto.

But of course this is Texas, where spellin are optional.

Best regards,

Doug

its binary. just as each place in a decimal number has a value, binary works the same way. i.e., 124 has 1 hunderds, 2 tens, and 4 ones. add 100 + 20 + 4 and you get 124.

decimal works in a way that each place starting from the right is a power of 10. the first place is 10^0, or 1. second place is 10^1, or 10. third is 10^2, or 100.... ect.

binary is based on powers of 2. the first spot is 2^0, or 1. second is 2^1, or 2, third is 2^2 (4), and so on... 1 2 4 8 16 32 ect.

just as with decimal, where you multiply the digit in each place by the power of 10 (for 124, you multiply the '2' by 10^1, and get 20.), you do the same for powers of 2 here.

00011011, starting from the right hand side (if you read down the first column you will see the number 00011011, as if you read it right to left. reading down the second colum gives you the value of each place. the third column is what is being contributed by each place.)

1 x 1 = 1
1 x 2 = 2
0 x 4 = 0
1 x 8 = 8
1 x 16 = 16
0 x 32 = 0
0 x 64 = 0
0 x 128 = 0

1 + 2 + 0 + 8 + 16 = 27

there are 10 types of people in the world. those that understand binary, and those that do not. ; )

monky, I must be somewhere in the middle of those 10 people - I didn't realize/remember you could multiple it out - I just started writing them all out (1, 10, 11, 100, 101, etc.) then counted them up! lol

the joke is that '10' is '2' in binary. so its saying "there are 2 types" not "there are 10 types"

lol.... ; ) i love that one makes me remember how much of a nerd i really am

I'm right there with you monky.....that one actually made me laugh out loud, then send it along to all my other nerdy friends.
