Furthermore, you can also make creative "scrawling" directly on photos.
So sell all those FZ10's, DSLRs and the like, and get with the program!

Oh my will, we have time to do any photo taking in between painting our nails, baking and doing the washing? ;)

Ack ack ack.. when will industries learn that ladies want the same as men when it comes to technology, quality and value for money. We don't need cutsie gimmicks and coordinating cameras. It's downright condescending and makes me immediately want to look at something else! Now if BenQ were offereing a camera like say the canon 300d which was cheap, well specced and good quality then even I could put up with the cutsie extras.. lol

Think I'll just stick with my canon G5,Fuji 2800z and continue lusting over the DSLR's and thinking about possibly buying a nice stabilised ultra zoom camera in the near future...

Right back to painting those nails and baking.. cough ... ;)

Good grief! Is there any difference between a male's eyeball and a female's? Can't we both turn on a camera and read the instructions or otherwise figure out how to use it? Oh, I see, the camera is pink. Well, that will go perfectly with the pink pants and high heeled shoes that I wear when I'm out photographing pink flowers....

Alice a.k.a Rebel in Pink :)

Sounded like a "feminine protection" ad and they would tell us where to stick it.

You are probably right about women in many countries but in Japan cute, feminine digicams, cell phones, etc. are very popular among women.

and as a woman-photographer can say to the people who market these
types of cams - study your market better! Personally, I don't care
about the red/pink coordinating deal. Give me
cutting-edge/efficient and robust tool!
If you can manage to forget the insensitivity (to say the least) of the marketing pitch, you might like to consider the idea that people would probably respond differently to having a looking camera looking like that pointed at them than they would to something more serious looking - an all black DSLR for example.

As a fun camera for fun shots it will probably work very well for both men and women.

And you can go swimming and horseback riding with it too!

This may be a camera for a girl who dabbles in photography, but I doubt any photographer who happens to be a woman will put down her current camera for one.

I've noticed that there are a quite a few compact cameras come out recently that have clearly been designed to be as much accessories as cameras -- different colors, cute "jewelry-like" design, and so on. It's pretty clear that influences from widgets like cell phones and MP3 players (the iPod in particular) have hit the ultra-compact digicam market big-time.

That said, some of the "cute" cameras appear to be pretty functional too -- I like the look of the new Panasonic ultra-compacts, for example, but they seem to have paid attention to the things that count: a BIG LCD, a big shutter release, and of course the image stabilization.

Is this good or bad? Well, I figure that if it'll get people to take pictures, it can't be bad. Whether it's a sensible marketing strategy to trumpet a camera as specifically "made for women" is another thing. I'd be inclined to think that it'd be better to be slightly more subtle about it. This gives a pretty strong message that the manufacturer thinks that women photographers care more about the color of the camera and that you can doodle on the picture and add photo frames, than stuff like whether it actually takes a good picture. If I was a manufacturer, this is not the kind of image I'd want to project.

True-but the rest of the planet has females too(just the odd one or too ;) ) and we might not appreciate the condescension or cutsieness. ;)

I suspect they designed it after reading threads in the many forums here. I've seen dozens and dozens of posts by men saying they are looking for a good camera with plenty of manual control but one that can be used in a simple point and shoot mode so the wife can use it LOL.

Stepford Lady Photographers now have a fashionable camera that can be coordinated with handbags and shoes....only, make sure not to use the white model after Labor Day.

At the risk of getting my head handed to me on a platter, who exactly is buying all those copies of "Vogue", "In Style" and similar such magazines? The last time I thumbed through one of those, I saw very few ads for power saws and the like.

Possibly the camera manufacturers have noticed this.
