So about a month ago (5 weeks in reality) I decided to take off and head across the united states taking photos along the way. 21436km, 6500+ photos, 1 lung infection, 1 back injury, 7 canyons, 3 mountains and two deserts later I've got more stories and met more people than any other point in my life. An absolutely amazing trip that took me from Detroit to New Orleans then across to Texas before zigzagging through AZ, UT, NM, and California before heading up the west coast and back across Canada.
I was weary about the ability of the DRebel to sustain it's ... life ... through scorching dusty deserts and splashing rivers and climbing rock faces but the camera surprised me. The only "damage" or "wear" it shows now is a pealing around the edges of the rubber grip areas, which I believe is the result of me forgetting a tripod in Carlsbad Caverns and being forced to rest the camera on sharp edged rocks for longer exposures.
Anyways, the trip was wild, and I wholeheartedly recommend "a great American roadtrip" to ANY American or Canadian. The cast of characters included Navajo Indians, Supais, Strippers in New Orleans, KKK in Texas, Bikers in New Mexico, Aussies, Japanese, and countless other travelers from other countries all of whom were generous and friendly (oddly, even the KKK, although I left that encounter with shaking hands from the things they uttered to me).
Also, I made the mistake of being a tad to glib with my money in San Fransisco and wound up paying WAY too much for a Tamron 75-300 LD Macro lens - so I advise travellers "shopping" to be POSITIVE they know the market value of what they're buying and not give in to pressure tactics. The lens is good for me I think, but it burns me I paid way way way way way too much for it.
Regardless of all that, here's the proof in the pudding, I've got a lot of images to go through and a lot of panoramas to stitch, so I'll be posting a few as they come through, but here's the first two I played with:
White Sands National Monument, Alamogordo, New Mexico
St. Louis Cemetery, New Orleans, Louisiana
