High resolution? (when 6 meg downsize to 3meg, there is little difference)
Color accuracy? (maybe, i like its tone but many don't)
Features?(obviously not)
Mine is the function of X3 fill light.

Can any other camera combined with any software reproduce the same amazing adjustment as the X3 fill light?
Thank you!

BTW. I just bought a sd10, waiting shipment now. I want to feel more excited about it.

I bought my SD9 because i thought they were almost giving them away when you compared the price to the image quality.
Now I appreciate the straight foward design more than anything else
This includes: no pop-up flash, buttons for everything (but W.Balance)
Rock solid ergonomics.
And, need i say....
this forum!

You'll be happy.

...is the reason.

Razor sharp resolution
Color accuracy? (maybe, i like its tone but many don't)
If you like it, who cares what others think? It's all about white balance, anyway.
Features?(obviously not)
Why not? Feature rich as far as I'm concerned.

Fill light is nice, but not the only reason to buy. I'm sure you could get similar effects in photoshop if you tried hard enough.
Thank you!

When you see the pop and jazz of your images, you will be!

IMNSHO, this is the best instrument at the most reasonable price, with the best customer service out there. Sure there are critics, but don't worry about the nattering nabobs. Take your shots, learn, learn, learn, and enjoy!

now, did I really get that close with the 55-200 or is this a crop from the double size(13mp) output?
Color accuracy? (maybe, i like its tone but many don't)
I think the colors are good. I personally thing the 'yellow' is a SPP thing. but I can be wrong.

You have essentially nailed why I came into the SD9 and now 10 myself. Ditto.

I have been looking on the SD9/10 since is came out. And there was 3 main reason why I became interested for it.

1. The sharpness was (is) great. Now with
2. The noise level in SD9/10 still kicks ass compared to any camera.
3. The "correct" colours!

I think the SD 10 is a great camera, and if I had the money, I would by it.

I don't see the lack of a pop-up flash as an advantage. Sometimes having to setup the flash is a pain in the neck, specially when you only want to take a snap-shot inside the house.

Agree with everything else (except the Sigma service which was mentioned in another post. I think they suck).

Cheers

3.5 mega pixels with all the info of a 6 or 7 meg picture has a big advantage. This almost fits on my 1600 X 1200 Del Ultra screen. Those dedicated souls that spend the money on their hobby to get a larger resolution screen can get the whole high res picture on the screen. If you spend a lot of time viewing your pictures on computer, and who doesn't, you can enjoy your pictures much more because of this. If you have a 6 or 7 meg picture and want to see your pictures comfortable on screen at 'max info', you will have to reduce each and every picture to 3.5 mega pixels (unless your viewer just happens to have a convenient size for this). This viewing advantage was probably a bigger reason for buying the camera than the '3D' effect that one gets from the Foveon images because the green areas of the image are NOT twice as sharp as the red and blue areas, and the great price for a quality 6-7 Meg equivalent camera.

I would like to note that one of the major reasons to choose an SD10 over other DSLRs is in fact the features!
  • instant start-up time
  • Mirror lock-up
  • Shooting priority - one of the most useful features of the camera. Don't have to leave the menu or review screen to take another picture quickly.
  • ISO support and dynamic range - the SD10 does an ecellent job now with higher ISO's Much better than the SD9, and a lot less noise in the shadows.
  • Very ergonomic controls that are easy to adjust without looking.
I would say for me, those features are in tandem with image quality for importance.

Actually it was not fill-light cause this was not availible back than but it was:

1) Crispness and the fine details the Sensor could pick up
2) The RAW Converter, I downloaded some x3f and tried SPP and liked it a lot.

I was looking at many digital Cameras before and none of them could deliver the amount of details and real resolution the SD9 could. So after reading some articles about Foveon and seeing pictures by Laurcence, Rick and Sam Pyrtle I was sure that I want this Camera, a good deal on it and some crappy SA mount sigma lenses I already had at this time (sold now) sort of sealed the deal...

Once I had it I was impressed by the start up time and how easily it can be controlled. Reading some other measages in this forum it seems that the later is not true for everybody but as long as it works that good for me I am happy. I tried a 10D and and did not get used to its workflow, especially not the command dial on the back, I just could not operate them that fast.

But that was after making the buying decision.

don't you think that, compared to eos10d, the auto focus related features of sd10 is not so strong?

Well... I can't srgue much with that, except that for all the AF features they have they seemed to have thier share of problems with the AF actually hitting what it was supposed to.

But it's a tradeoff, I am saying I think I would miss other features of the SD10 as much as I would enjoy a more advanced AF system.

Defiantley the software for the camera is a major plus as well.

That the straight foward, instant-on, shooting priority, non menu controlled, ergonomics have really won the hearts of those here.
this is much the contrary to what you would read from a review.

Many reviewers have made allusions that the SDs are not as "polished" or attractive as the other DSLRs.

What we seem to have confirmed is that not only is the above of no concequence, but that the design of the phsicla camera has only allowd us to better focus on image quality and get those results.

As one frugal poster put it-"Less is More!"

Those who may not have one of these cameras should take note!
