Some might say I'm mad for not having my 10D / 100-400L and other kit insured yet....that's about to be rectified!

A trip to Prague in mid-Aug and a trek to Mt Everest base camp in 13 weeks has spurred me to take steps to cover my gear - at last. I guess I've been chancing it for too long.

I've checked out the web and found Photoguard and E&L.

Could any of my fellow-Brits tell me who they've had good/indifferent/bad experiences with insurance-wise?

BTW I'm going to the Royal International Air Tattoo tomorrow at Fairford - weather's looking dicey, but I guess we might get some dramatic dark background sky and no haze.

My gear's covered under my home contents insurance. I did use Photoguard for the first year but wasn't happy with some of the conditions, particularly that the gear must be either with the insured or in a locked room at all times outside my home, even if the rest of the premises at the time was locked. I was also a touch uneasy about the in-car cover, it looked like they had a pretty good getout even if the gear was locked in the boot.

Photoguard. They give far better cover than adding it to your home insurance. E&L are touchy if you have made a claim for anything at all in the the last three years.

If you really want to know what I shoot with - look under my profile.

Many insurers for photo gear, simply sell on camerasure alliance policies.

watch conditions in any policy - camerasure seem one of the best, with theft from an unattended hotel room or car boot without signs of forced entry being required.

golden valley are another to look at - with a different way of doing things.

most others seem watered down varients.

search for my prior posts on these.
