Which camera strap?

Too bad I can't try this and the OpTech on for size to see which works best for me. The padded suede leather strap does sound very appealing..

Cassandra
about an inch for the strap,1 1/2 inches for the leather shoulder
pad, very comfortable...

Come to think of it I still have a couple of retro-style camera straps from the 70's I could use. :D

Is there any reason the OpTech might be a problem since I'm rather

A nice black Sharpie will make the Nikon name less noticible. I did that on the factory strap. I should probably inhale some more fumes and do it on this one too.
And yes, it is OEM'd from OPTech so it is good quality.

I got this for my birthday last month and really like it. It
really spreads out the weight of the camera. It is also cool on a
hot summer day at the race track. It also unclips for tripod use.

for the D70 becuase the D70 does not have pro level connectors which bind wide strap loops. The Optech Pro Loop connectors are small loops which work perfectly with the D70. It's not so much about noticeability as it is with comfort for me. This is the only strap that doesn't give me a headache after a long period of time. Did a 10-day tour of Europe with this strap and it never bothered me and that's saying a ton.

Hi, Cassandra.

I use the cheaper OpTech classic strap myself. Not very wide at 1.5" and very comfy I think. I regularly keep my big Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 attached to the D70 w/ the strap slung over my shoulder.

Sounds like the Adorama Slinger should be a good fit for you. My Tamrac Velocity 5 is actually very similar -- I believe Adorama basically copied this bag and just made it a little bigger and simpler, eg. side mesh pockets instead of loops for attaching additional pouches/cases.

If I were to buy now, I would probably still buy the Velocity 5 instead because I like being able to attach a lens pouch (for my kit lens or 85mm f/1.8) that can be removed and taken along w/ its own strap when I don't want to carry everything w/ me, especially the big 70-200 f/2.8. I do that sometimes when I'm just going out to lunch from work -- just the D70 slung over my shoulder w/ either kit lens or 85mm f/1.8 attached and the other one in the pouch also slung over my shoulder.

I have also seen the Velocity 7 and 9 bags that others mentioned, and don't like them. They are very different and more like form-fitting backpacks although they are closer to being true sling bags than both Velocity 5 and the Adorama Slinger.

Anyway, you will probably like the Slinger bag from what I can gather.

Hi Man! Yes different strokes for different folks. :) The mesh side pockets would be more useful for my needs since I usually take a water bottle on outings. Now to just decide on a color... black or green? Saw a photo of the green bag on pbase earlier today and it looked very attractive but the site is slow as molasses right now and I can't even do a search.

I have an Adorama slinger that I've been using with my S7000. It holds the S7000 with adapter tube & a flower-petal lenshood, B-300, WL-FX7 wide angle, a set of close-up lenses, a set of 4 filters, and there are compartments for carrying extra batteries, memory cards, a small gray card, a cable release, etc. And it is very comfortable to carry "over the shoulder."
Mine is "camouflage," which makes all the difference! :)
This should give you an idea about its size.

Just found your post. :) Yep I'm pretty much decided on the Slinger bag.

Let us know how you like the Optech camera strap. I'm also looking for something, and I'm also small and short.

Hi Cassandra,

Works great! This strap adjusts a bit shorter than most so it fits me very well. Also it's just the right width for me. I was able to leave my D70 around my neck for hours in heat and humidity without discomfort.

It worked out pretty well on our recent trip. It fit all my gear in a compact, sturdy top-loading bag. I like the extra security when worn across the chest. The weight of my camera gear was distributed better too. My older bag put all the weight on my right shoulder and also made it easier to steal. The Slinger fit more comfortably on my right side than my left, with the wider part of the strap across my back rather than in front. It has a tendency to shift a little to the front when I walk but perhaps that's because I have it adjusted to rest on my [female] hip. The green is a nice dark teal color.

I think Adorama is getting ready to release two new Slinger bags which are both larger than mine. They'd be too big and heavy for my needs but would hold more stuff. See Popular Photography Sept. 2004, pg. 38 for more info and pics.

Cassandra
I'm seriously thinking of getting this bag.
