Mastering MKII(3-Sharpness): where bravery becomes insanity...

You will never , ever be able to obtain such level of definition
and sharpness out the 1D (or the SD9, as you brought it on your
sample). I just would love to be able to meet or have a common
target for both of us to test, and contrast the results.

In terms of low frequency artifacts (bright ones are minimal on the
MKII, compared to the 10D raw samples I have), the following is a
list of conversions, order from highest to lowest occurrence, once
sharpening is applied:

1. .JPGs
2. C1-converted .CR2
3. ACR(CS)-converted .CR2

The C1 conversion brings all worlds together into an overall
best-compromise, in the artifacts departments, but with highest
overall signal-to-noise ratio, undisputable highest resolution, and
pleasant/real color rendition.

The sharpened examples shown here, are geared towards printing, and
they all print excellent.

I will soon follow with my tree logs, which I am sure you will like.

Kind regards,

Ferenc
none (not a single one, not even the SD9) have the level of
sharpness that I am currently extracting out of the MKII.
All I'm seeing though Ferenc, is oversharpening and dot artifacts
(black and white specks appearing in the foliage) , the D30 and D60
do this when you push the sharpening too hard in C1 or afterwards
in PS

Believe me, I'd love the Mk2 to nail the Mk1 and SD9 for this, I'm
going to have to GET a Mk2 when they eventually become available in
the UK - I'd love to get rid of banding, long exposure specks,
crappo E-TTL, no-image zoom, awful battery performance and other
little things which spoil the MK1 but I've yet to see anything to
suggest that the Mk2 IMAGE wise is anything like an 8Mp 1D Mk1
would be.. Believe me, there is nothing I'd like more than an 8mp
1D with all the niggles removed and I've got the cash waiting!

I bought Flexsharp for the S2 do I get an update for the MK2 or do I have to buy the profuct again? And if I get an update how and when?

Question. Does the 1D mk II solve the 10D. SOunds silly but, the
10D has a higher pixel density. SO take picture of a scene with the
same lens and examine each one. Crop 1D mk IIto same size as 10D
shot and you have only 5.28MP in 1D Mk II v 6MP. Sure pixels aren't
created equal and maybe superior AA filter of 1D mk II will
overcome this deficit but are the results close?
I disagree. The 10D is a 6.3 megapixel camera at a 1.6 crop factor. So, if it had the same density on a full frame sensor it would have 6.3 X 1.6 = 10.08 megapixels. The Mk2 has 8.2 megapixels at a 1.3 crop factor. Same density on full frame sensor is 8.2 X 1.3 = 10.66 megapixels. So the pixel density of the Mk2 is higher than the pixel density of the 10D.

You math is a bit off. It is 6.3 MP X 1.6 X 1.6. You have to do both horizontal and vertical directions. And it isn't really 1.6X but something like 1.56 or something.

The pixel densities from lowest to highest are:
D30
1D
1Ds
1D Mk II
D60/10D/300D

Steven,

thanks for the correction. Yep, the 10D is more dense - 18,379 pixels per mm versus the 1D Mk2's 14,959 pixels per mm.

...all intermediate upgrades (such as v1.2, v1.4) are free for exisiting users. Hoewever, v2.0 is a major release, and it is not subject to the same policy.

Of course, there is an incentive for registered users, as opposed to a brand new one.

Once the product is fully completed, I will share all details. As you already know (by being a previous version user), it is priced quiet competitively.

Ferenc
