F505V: The KING!!!

Here is a shot that I really like. I don't know if it's for nostalgia's sake (I'm from near N.O. originally) or if it's the camera's performance.

But have a look at this one:

http://www.zing.com/picture/pa06253c313aca8cc1528a73a15228626/feb40671.jpg.orig.jpg

Notable not only for the some things I like about the architecture and decorations, but also for the camera's low noise in varying light intensities, great dynamic range, detail even at 1280x960. Not a perfect shot, but sometimes you look at other cameras so much, you can forget what a performer your own camera can be when you use what you've learned.
Man, let me tell you guys...

I am WICKED impressed with my F505V. This trip was like getting a
new camera.

Hot spit!!!

Not all of the shots, but some of them are really cool. Low noise,
bright images, good focus, nice and sharp. Can't ask for much more.

And these are taken at 1280x960 res.

I like 2464 and 2471. In 2471, there are shops in the right hand side of the picture. One of them in a full frame would have been a fantastic one, too.

Pondria -

Thank you! Very much.

You'd be surprised at how well these are printing out even though they are "only" 1280x960, if if printed as 8x10.

I'm rather surprised. I'm getting the impression that the Sony cameras take the entire 2.62 megapixels to create even the lower resolution images. This is something that Olympus trumpets with their latest cameras, but ours have been doing this all along without the hype.

Another advantage of the 1280x960 is that the compression is still rather "fine", without introducing a lot of artifacts. Notice how 640x480 pics have compression artifacts in them, as if the compression level has been increased?

The F505V somehow actively scales the compression to suit the picture.

With my limited knowledge on CCD, I guess it's just easier to take the full frame raw image regadless of the resulting picture size. Resizing happens after that.

I agree, too. Unless you crop the picture, 1280 mode is just fine.
