It is easier to blame the firmware than the wetware.

Mark Marshall,

Well buying something and knowing how to use it are two different things, as we all well know. I'm getting there with the MT-24, but it has been a bit of a struggle. Still lots to learn and lots to try.

Thanks for your encouragement.

Cheers,

jim

SMH,

Yes, I'm still intrigued by that article on cross polarization. Very interesting. And I too have thought about fashioning some kind of diffuser for the flash heads on the MT-24. Let me know what your results are when you try your home-made diffusers. I think they are needed, particularly when you are shooting a subject thatis highly reflective.

And thanks for the compliments.

Cheers,

jim

Jim, great pics, as usual I just wondered if you did many macros with no flash. I am no purist, but do not care for flashes and hand hold all my macros. Granted, they are not comparable to your's but I do like the pics taken no flash much better myself and wondered how you felt. I am aware of all the reasons for using tripods and flashes, too.

You are certainly making better use of that lens than I did. I'm glad you are getting such great results. I tried to send you an e-mail message today. You are too popular. Your mailbox was full. I had a neat image to share with you.

Russell,

Honestly, I need a flash for shooting in bright sunshine! When you get this close, stopping way down is essential to get any DOF. I tried shooting at 1/100 shutter speed, but one can argue that you need 1/160 for this focal length. And since the critters are in motion, I find 1/200 gives a bit of wiggle room to stop the action and camera shake.

I'm still working on my flash technique, so maybe over time it will not be quite so obvious.

Thanks for looking and thanks always for your comments.

Cheers,

jim

I just did and erased your old address. I was thrilled with this shot that was taken very hurriedly with little planning--a magical piece of luck.

I know you have a machine that, when you enter in with your camera, reduces your size to the scale of those tiny creatures. You take the photos at that scale, like taking pictures of buildings, then enter the machine again and enlarge yourself to your original scale, then post the pictures here!!!

LOL, just kidding.

The pictures are such that, I feel that sometimes these creatures can be walking on the streets, some taller than 1.80m., and even some of them can say "hello" to us and shake hands.

I love those pictures, congratulations. Capturing a macro shot is a hard work, which you are doing like wearing your shirt on.

Keep them coming, we enjoy them.

Regards,
Cagin...

These are great Jim. I can see that you are learning how to use that flash of yours as these shots look a lot more natural than some of the shots you had when you first got the flash. If that flash was not so damn expensive in Canada I would pick it up myself.

Look forward to seeing your next batch.
