Here are some more comparisons on what you can do with diopters. These were shot with the +10:

Flash Used No
Focal Length 22.9 mm
Exposure Time 1/250 sec
Aperture f/5.6
ISO Equivalent 80
Exposure Bias -2/3
Metering Mode matrix (5)
JPEG Quality basic (1)
Exposure Program aperture priority (3)

Flash Used No
Focal Length 22.9 mm
Exposure Time 1/200 sec
Aperture f/5.6
ISO Equivalent 80
Exposure Bias -2/3
White Balance (-1)
Metering Mode matrix (5)
JPEG Quality basic (1)
Exposure Program aperture priority (3)

Flash Used No
Focal Length 22.9 mm
Exposure Time 1/400 sec
Aperture f/5.6
ISO Equivalent 80
Exposure Bias -2/3
White Balance (-1)
Metering Mode matrix (5)
JPEG Quality basic (1)
Exposure Program aperture priority (3)

I have discovered that the +10 focuses best about 4 inches from the subject.

Hmmm...

To follow my embarrassing moment suggestion, I'm going to ask you how you get the EXIF. I have to go to properties, summary, advanced, and copy it to word to get it. I know that there is an easier way.

On pbase, the exif is listed right under your photo. When I post a pic, it's very easy just to copy and paste it right underneath. I think you can skip copying it to word, just copy it directly to the post.

How do you feel to be that close to those bugs?

How far are you away?

How did you take them? I mean, settings on the camera?

What camera are you using again?

I usually find bugs on a flower to be cliche' and then I realized, hey, waterfalls with the silky look are cliche' too, stop being a butthead. So if you tell me these things, I'll love you forever. :)

I just started macros this year. I've been taking pictures on digital for 4 years now. I mostly like landscapes and waterfalls. I do some portraits, not many. And recently, some flower closeups. I tried a couple bee shots, but it just freaks me out and then they look like bumps far away on a flower far away because I'm a chicken :)

Don't know what it's called but I know it's really tiny so that's an excellent sharp, detailed macro and the colors are fabulous.

Depends on the bug. You haven't seen me post any pics of wasps yet! ;) Actually, I don't really like bugs but I am fascinated with the cameras ability to capture them.
How far are you away?
When I use the +10 diopter I am about 4 inches away. I can go more like 6-8 inches with the +4 and lower diopters.
How did you take them? I mean, settings on the camera?
I started with the macro and supermacro settings on my camera. Now that I am using diopters, I use strictly aperture mode, zooming in as much as possible and then moving the camera until the bug is clearly focused.

Okay, I'll tell you these these things, "stop being a butthead!" They actually do require patience and persistance. What really amazes me are the folks who can catch birds. That is really pushing my patience!

Also, I think your landscapes and waterfalls are really beautiful. You photograph the kinds of things people would be willing to pay to hang on the wall and you do it WELL.

Start with flies and other creatures that won't hurt you. If you look in my pbase bug gallery, I think I only have one bug in there that would have stung me.

Also, one of the things I have been reading says to try to use a +1 in portraits, so that's one of the things I plan to try when I visit my nieces and nephews this weekend. :)
