Arcyd's back focus issues reveled. There is none in his case.. Truth about this "guy"

actually there are several d70 shots on my dpc page. I didn't manually enter camera setting data because they weren't challenge entries so they weren't required.

the red flower one i took the first day i got the d70... i took about 10 shots of the same flower, and all but the one I uploaded had backfocus.
I've read a lot of his posts and looked at his pics. I think he has
too much time on his hands and pretends to be a d70 owner. I can't
find any camera setting data for his shots.

Ah well folks, what do you expect from the internet? It's just a
pity that potential D70 buyers don't try them for themselves.
I guess he does not want any one to see his photos
Here is some pretty good proof this person has a D70
http://www.richardcarey.com/photos/ Those are his photo's or where
his photo's are linked. He signs his childish responses with RC
all the time too. There is a file BF in there too along with a lot
of good shots with no signs of BF. He obviously is just a younger
person with a little attitude problem and that's about it.
I pretty much made the same case a month or so ago and was verbally
assaulted by these "D70 Owners" who have never posted a picture but
continually complain about BF issues. I believe that .01% of all
D70 may have these issues but I think it is disgruntled drebel
users or people who do not wish to lean to use the D70 properly
that make the majority of the post on this forum.

As with many things in this world it is much ado about nothing.

He sure does act like her, write like her and insult people like her. He might be her brother or cousin or maybe son or nephew. I'm just kidding now. The fact is the guy has a problem and I still agree with the original message on this thread. LOL. OK, I was wrong, I'm sorry acryd. Now stop acting like you have a chip on your shoulder with your insulting responses to EVERYONE. That is right, you treat everyone the same, LIKE DIRT. I'm glad it is not personal but it is poor nevertheless.

backdoctor,

thanks man. yeah, you're right. to be honest, my first post was supposed to be a bit of a rant and a joke at the same time, but I think it got things too flared up, and then it went from there off into various other issues. Perhaps I imagine the backfocus to be more widespread than it actually is; but I guess I blame that on having had it on the ones I tried.

I'll chill out. I'll likely buy another Nikon soon, too, sometime. I guess I'm just overly upset at my own bad luck with backfocus. Ideally I'd like to see everyone rise up with pitchforks and torches and break down Nikon's door, demanding free cameras and fixed backfocus... LOL

Anyway, as I've maintained all along (well, maybe not so much the last couple of days, but beforehand), the D70 is an incredible, solid camera and most of the shortcomings are overblown. I do hope to have better luck with backfocus next time, but I still think its a great camera.

For now, though, I'm going to go take some photos for DPC with my S400 pocketcam, and try not to get as angry this time while I'm imagining the D70 and trying to get the perfect shot with NO manual controls, LOL (stupid s400!)

lol
I dont think he is a Canon plant or anything like that. Maybe a bit
too analytical in some respects, but it takes all kinds to make a
forum. He doesnt hate any brand although it does come off like that
at times. It can be upsetting if you own the camera. Realize,
anything anyone else says will not affect your photography. It gets
to the point we have to agree to disagree and move on.

Richard, it may not be what you are posting, but how you go about
it. No need to alienate a forum. Hope you find the camera that is
right for you. There is no perfect camera, no matter what anyone
says.
This “guy” is obviously a fake. I went through his old messages and
he was complaining that when the d70 was announced how many
problems it had. He continually comments on peoples pictures in the
Nikon forum of what type of noise reduction software they are
using. In other words saying the D70 has high noise.
Here is just one of hundreds of examples:
On April 9th Arcyd says "i agree 100%, im glad someone finally told
it like is". Arcyd is responding to a Cannon guy saying some
negative things about the D70 in the Cannon Forum. Arcyd must hate
the positive review of the D70 and how it is rated so much higher
then Cannon's Rebel.

Then after all these negative posts like the one above and I mean
HUNDREDS of negative posts about the d70 he goes and buys one?

LOL!!!

Of course, he gets three bad ones....

ROFL!!!!!

As many people have said, you must ask yourself what are the odds?

This is a second account owned by a Cannon troll. Phil, who has no
small love of Cannons, said "There's no risk involved in the D70's
slightly higher price compared to the EOS 300D (Digital Rebel),
it's absolutely worth it." Man, that line must have killed him.

His account should be banned by Phil. Arcyd is not even a troll. He
is just a Cannon zealot with two posting accounts trying to spread
doubt and inspire fear on the D70. He also hates Olympus and Sony
(not Cannon). You can read his rants for yourself by clicking on
his name.

For myself, I am selling my Oly 5050, sniff and waiting for my D70
to arrive in the mail. It should get here by Thursday!

But don’t play into his postings and don’t keep threads started by
him going. That is what he wants so the new buyer trying to make a
decision comes in and sees all the hoopla and thinks where there is
smoke there is fire.

From what I have heard, those that truly do have backfocus and send the camera in for the repair, are very happy after. So, my opinion is that if you like the camera, get o ne. I know two friends that have it, and no problem at all. If there is, send it in for the calibration, and then you will have an even better camera to shoot with.

Just my 2 cents.

Suffice to say that your responses have reveled more about you then I could. I wish you luck with your S400 and in posting lots of good pictures in the Cannon forum. That would be a more appropriate place to crusade and inform the “ignorant masses” of the horrors of the D70. Or better yet just take pictures with the S400?

Personally, I think you won't leave the Nikon forum. However, I will hold back my responses to your comments on the off chance that you did have a change of heart about your hundreds of insulting postings.

In other news, I knew a Daniella (if it is the same one) from the Oly forum. She sold her Oly for a Minolta 8X if memory serves me right. Her posts (from what I remember from the Oly forum ) are passionate in her love of what she owned. It’s different then bashing a camera constantly before you get it and then buy three of them and return them? With someone like Daniella you know where the bias is coming from (Cannon user) and there is no subterfuge. She loves her Cannon and god bless her there is nothing wrong with that. I personally don’t understand the need to go over into the Cannon forum and post a message saying why I bought a D70.

My camera does come in tomorrow with two lenses and I can’t wait to take pics of my daughter (low light basketball shots) and son football (telephoto shots). It should replace the Oly 5050 quite nicely. (No, I am not going over the Oly forum and bash it or the 8080)

Do a search with back focus in this forum.
See this:
Joel http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1034&message=9380701

Most people will never have noticed back focus before is because it's hidden both by low sharpening and a generous depth of field.

Only when using a single focus points at lowest depth of field with several objects visible under a single focus target would back focus show up if it were there. Did the closest object under the target get selected or not?

An object with a smooth surface colour and no sharp edges will be bypassed for a sharp edged object under the focus target.

This would show Nikon did not design a small enough focus zone for each single focus point.

Test focus with the D70 held at normal horizontal and then rotate at 90 degrees. You might see a difference in ability to focus under harsh conditions. Some cameras focus on vertical lines better than horizontal liines.

Say in this situation Nikon offered an option to rotate the focus matrix by 90 degrees so you didn't have to rotate the camera 90 degrees for the better focus ability which occurs at one other vertical or horizontal position.

Any serious testing requires a tripod with remote controller.

I'm always proud of people who honestly drive a manufacturer crazy to improve their camera or lose market share by ingnoring the issues. Threaten to take money out of manufacturers pockets and users will achieve a favorable response. Say nothing and nothing will change. That's a contribution called LAZY and IGNORANT.

A perfect example is the person who never upgrades camera firmware. All sensors operational captain. Yeah right. Admittedly sometimes there are good reasons to not do every firmware upgrade. Must be an informed decision though.

It is very possilble D70 focus issues could be improved with firmware, but manufacturers hate admitting to serious problems which throw the market into a spin in the wrong direction.

Think about service speed from a manufacturers point of view. If forced to recalibrate several cameras how many hours do think they want to spend? Yes they rely on software tools heavily even if they don't make them public.

or at least Bob Woodward???

No, seriously, this has to be the "silliest" (uh oh, I might be Daniella/acryd/ewo...but, actually, if I am going to be someone else, please can I be David Chin or nowhereatoll or maybe Ron Resnick or Thom Hogan instead?) thread ever.

If I were David Chin, I would definitely list it on his site under "humor" cause that really is the only place all of this belongs.

No one should take any of this so seriously. It's just a camera to take pictures of real life, not real life itself.

well, to be as kind as possible, yes that was my entire point, i thought that was obvious.

i said i'll chill, so i will, but i must agree, sometimes giving a company a bad name, or whatever, gives them incentive to get it right next time. ignoring the problem and accepting it, does not.
