first of all the 10D pic has faulty operator...
and probably doesn't have that L lens every Canon needs.
and probably was shot on ISO1600 at 15 sec exposure.
Ok, here's another shot from the same "faulty operator":

It may look fine at this size, lets face it most downsized pics do but look at the original and the noise terrible:
http://www.pbase.com/image/30720517/original

And that was not ISO1600, that was only at ISO400!!!

Now take a look at these two SD10 shots taken at ISO400:

http://sigmasd10.fotopic.net/p5393368.html

There are a lot of Jpeg artifacts as these were compressed to 60% using Irfanview for uploading to the web but even back in the shadows the noise is virtually non-existant.

Or this one:

No, Nutella and no noise!

This was taken with a 10D!.....Yes Jarvic7,...a Canon 10D!!!...and
look at the noise!!!

AAAAARGH.....Nutella alert!!!,....Nutella alert!!!!

And how a Sigma version looks:

IMO, a VERY convincing arguement to buy a Sigma!

Well.......at least it proves the combination of vivitar 35~200 zoom lens + SD10 produces very decent pictures, especially stopped to mid-aperture!

Hello Uly,

Nice to see you around here.

The SD10 is one of the few cameras that has varying noise levels without noise reduction software. When the SD9 first came out, there was tremendous amounts of noise, especially coming from Plano, TX. You probably recall that.

Lately, noise levels have been better with a few hiccups. The problem seems to be that all other cameras are perfect and the SDxx are the only ones with any noise.

I use earplugs now, which seems to help some. I also refuse to get my prescription renewed for my glasses, which gives me a sort of personal blur filter.

Beats me what else they could be talking about. Formula 1 engines are definitely noisier.

Thank you Tammons, you have just proved my point!
A single uncontrolled image comparision can never prove anything. There are lots of good images by both cameras that are free to compare, so people can make up their own minds.

I'm zealous about the SD10, but "over-zealous" can do more good than harm. If the proponents of a camera come across as insanely biased, does that prove it's a better camera?

Shucks...lots of noise still coming from Switzerland!!!! That volcano seems to go off a lot...all over the internet!!

Of course all volcanos need some time to rest and eventually go dormant or inactive.

You are making a judgement call on a single shot! the sigma shot has much better lighting, whoever took the 10D shot was having a bad day or did not know what he was doing!

I use the 10D with almost exclusive Sigma lenses, 1 tamron lens, and get superb results! here is my deer shot.
http://mishappa.image.pbase.com/u39/pnorth/upload/25504402.BZ_1_24_04453.jpg ;
and here is a little bird
http://mishappa.image.pbase.com/u35/pnorth/upload/23353302.img2.jpg ;
both shots were taken with the 50-500 "awsome lens" and a 10D.

Hi Paul,

Nice shots, and sorry about this silly thread. This forum is full of friendly and knowledgeable guys who shared their experience with newbies like me so we can learn how to better use the SDX cameras. Unfortunately, as of lately we have been receiving too many DRebel/D70/D10 posts and we just got too carried away. I have seen excellent pictures taken with all available D-SLRs. We all know there is no perfect camera, and we all know that judging a camera based on one picture is not the way to go. I hope all this “mine is better than yours” ends. I really won’t like this forum to be known as a “place” where all non Sigma cameras are bashed. Sometimes we complain about the pot shots people take at the Sigma. We should avoid doing the same with other cameras.

My 2 cents.

Cheers
