ERR Message - Camera won't fire

Hey,

Still learning lots but seem to be having a problem every 50 or so pictures I take. The camera (seems to be happening in all modes) won't fire, displays "err" on the upper display and will only work if you press the shutter release button again. Once you press the shutter release button it rapid fires about 5-6 times (taking no pictures) and then is ready to snap the next one.

This is extremely frustrating as I have missed several great shots! Is this a faulty camera? I have read about other ERR messages and others taking the cameras back but nothing like my problem.

Thanks in advance for any replies,

Chris

Chris,

When I first got my camera it did the same thing. It was because I had pushed the lense release button while putting the lense on. I turned the camera off, removed the lense, turned it back on then off, then put the lense back on making sure not to touch the button. Now have never had the problem again. For your sake I hope this is the problem because I think your only option is to return it for service. That is what the manual says.

also make sure that the mirror is down after you take the lense off. When i got the error message it caused the mirror to stay up. I used a cotton bud to knock it back down then put the lense on.

Dope ! didn't seem to work... test fired about 10 shots and after that same ERR message...then rapid fire again before it was back to normal. Suppose I will be phoning NIKON. Thanks anyhow for the suggestion.
