B&H Photo Video

When I die, I'm going to be cremated and have my ashes spread in
the shipping department.
You mean your ashes will replace the plastic bags for packing? Eek- I foresee more complaints ! Lol !!!

To the original poster - in Canada, try Cameracanada.com, or Adencamera or Visktek or (my least favorite & most expensive) Henrys they're all in Ontario; Simons in Quebec; McBain in Alberta. B&H is excellent - most prices are well below Canadian, especially if you wait till our dollar is around 0.75 c US.No duties on photo equipment.

Newegg tends to have the best prices on digital cameras.

My Sony Mavica came from Newegg.

However, Newegg normally only allows exchanges for the same model. If you don't like your choice, tough.

If Newegg runs out of stock and you have a defective camera, you'll have to send it off for repair under the warranty.

I've bought many things through Focus Camera without a problem.

I've only used B&H to buy batteries for the Mavica.

I've paid my nickel and phoned B&H and gotten knowledgeable advice about papers, inks, tripods, accessories. Very helpful.

I've found 2 digicams and a large-format inkjet printer for substantially less money at OneCall.com (located in Oregon, USA), and their delivery came ahead of time with everything ship-shape! - Jean Ricket

Also, does anyone know any good online retailers based in Canada?
I'll let you know after I talk to them tomorrow 6/18 about the tripod I returned. They didn't have what was shown on their website so they sent me what they had which was unacctepable. I returned the item at my own expense. The ad I bought from suddenly said "out of stock" after I notified them. Maybe they'll do the right thing by sending the item I thought I was getting at $10 more. Maybe they'll stonewall and refund my money minus the cost of return. Or maybe they'll charge me the difference. In any case it was their erroneous advertising that caused the problem.

... That's what I would do. Be detailed. Say something like, "DPReview recommended you highly, so I was surprised to receive a tripod that was different than advertised and not acceptable for my shooting needs. I have returned it at my own expense and request that you send me a tripod equivalent to the one you originally advertised--the XYZ or higher." I'll be watching for their reply and hoping they come through. - Jean Ricket

http://www.adencamera.com , I buy alot of my stuff there, they seem to have great deals and keep alot of stock. They had my fisheye adaptor long before any other toronto stores did. I always go to them first. In fact, just a few weeks ago I recommended a camera to a friend of mine and directed them to Aden, they tried going to another store and see if they could match the Aden price, and the guy and the other store said they didn't know how Aden could sell the camera so cheap.
Aden also seems to have staff that know what they are talking about.

I've also gone with B&H in the past, they got my stuff up here to toronto within a few days. they seem to have a good reputation, it's rare to hear of people who are unhappy with B&H, perhaps they made a mistake with that tripod.

Vistek seems to have high prices on things, and their service has let me down before. I don't go their unless i need it fast and the are the only store that has it in stock. It must be In stock, if they say it will be one week, then add at least two to that.

Henrys is ok if you keep an eye out for sales, I didn't find their staff in the digital department knew their stuff.

If you are looking at getting flash memory, the cheapest place I have found in toronto for that would be http://www.canadacomputers.com , I don't find the camera stores can match their prices on memory.

Just finished talking with B&H. The net result is that for the $10 difference in product price they'll ship the correct tripod. However, I had to argue with them. They tried to tell me that they shipped the correct item and that I didn't know how to operate it and that they'd just credit my credit card (and let me eat the return shipping). They also denied that their web site had the incorrect info and their out of stock note was because they were really out of stock and not because of my complaint. I even sent them a copy of the incorrect web ad! I won't be doing business there again soon. It'll be over when I view my cc account and the correct tripod arrives. Who needs that kind of aggravation. This is the reason that I paid more but bought my camera locally. I had to return it but that was a breeze and no problem at the local camera shop (fully charged batteries and it froze). Now if the new $700 dryer with the computerized pushbutton controls would just dry as advertised..............

I'm not a big purchaser by any stretch, but I have had great dealings with Cameta Camera and Adorama and can highly recommend them from my personal experience.

I received my tripod from B&H today. They credited my CC account and sent me out the correct item at the higher price plus shipping again. They did nothing about the $9 I spent to return the wrong item they sent . To add insult to injury they didn't send the warranty card. I have to call them.
This is my last purchase with B&H.

I'll deal locally from now on, providing that what I want is available. No way will I give $$$ to B&H again.
