Hello there everyone

just a qucik question, i have just bought a new pentax optio s4, is there any way to connect it to a computer without using the driver cd, i am going on holiday and would prefer it if i didnñt have to take the cd with me, so i can just walk into any internet cafe and download them onto a cd, does anyone know if this is possible

thanks to everyone in advance

Most internet cafe computers are configured to disallow software installations. Your best bet is to buy an SD USB adapter and carry that with you. This adapter will allow you to access your SD card like a removable drive on most modern computers running a modern operating system without any additional software.

Here's one such adapter:

I've also seen a smaller USB key size SD adapters from less reputable
companies.

I don't know about the S4, but my S4i is not recognized as a storage device under XP without the driver.
I thought any PC running Windows XP would automatically recognize
the camera as a storage device. You may have trouble if the PC is
runnig 98.

The S4i has a new feature which makes it recognized as a storage device without pentax drivers.

I am happy with the S4i, but i think my old Optio S produce the same quality images at 3.2 megapix as the S4i does at 4.2 megapix.
Anyone else who agree?

I agree a card reader is a good option and I used this on a recent holiday.

I bought a PQI USB 2.0 Travel Flash 6in1 CF/MD/SM/MM/SD/MS Portable Reader, which cost £10 from http://www.ebuyer.com

This reads really quickly from my SD cards and doesn't need a driver if you have access to an XP PC. It does come with drivers if you have a different PC and these are on a mini CD - useful if space is a premium.
