Nikon 50 1.4 vs. 50 1.8

Why not get the Nikon 50mm 1.4 lens instead of the slower 1.8? Aside from the price difference, is it much bulkier? Any other considerations? This is to be used on the D70.

Well the price difference is pretty substantial for questionable gains. It's not like with the 85mm Nikkors where the 1.4 has much better bokeh and maintains its excellent sharpness even wide open compared to the 1.8. In fact, the 50mm 1.8 is actually reported to be sharper than the 50mm 1.4; so unless you just really need the extra speed for shooting low light, it's just not worth the money.

Why don't you test them both and see if the price difference justifies that extra .4

I've tested them both by shooting charts and actual photos a while back, and nobody who is educated in photo could tell the diff.
