upsize and downsize

If you don't shoot NEF, no software can do such a thing.
could you please explain this to me in more detail ..................
why can it be done in nef (can it also be done if i change nef to raw)
and not in say jpg mode?
this has me very confused .
thanks alot
I am a little confused by Sensible Name's comments as well. I frequently downsize in either PS CS or Capture, but upsizing is always a problem because it requires interpolation. Are you suggesting that this can somehow be avoided with NEF?

The more I learn, the less I know.

I use photoshop CS for almost everything, sometimes i use the XP Powertoy resizer to shrink them for the web

I have a photo shop action that is a "Loseless Resizer" it does a great job at makeing photos up to 8x bigger with no loss in quality, that takes forever but it works

and ive blown one up to 24x36 in PS:CS just useing image size, its printed and looks fine

How do you change NEF to RAW when already NEF is RAW?. NEF (Nikon Electronic Format) is the RAW file owned by Nikon.)

In fact, I was wrong when I said my first comment. Downsizing or upsizing an image always degrades picture quality (in theory, and might not be noticeable to the human eye -- depends on whose eyes too) no matter if it is RAW (NEF), or JPG or BMP.

Let's say you take a photograph of the first page of a newspaper at 2000 pixels by 3008 pixels. And you downsize that image to 500 pixels by 752 pixels. The image (that page of the newspaper) is now harder to read. If that's the image of ten people, now it's harder to tell who's who. Does that mean degradation of picture quality to you?

The D70 can produce 6 megapixel images. With this software in the D70, Nikon can now say it can produce huge 48 megapixel images? The fact is, it's not that easy.
