After much anguish and grief, bye *ist D

After looking at your gallery, I couldn't help but wondering if you
really need a "Pro" camera or even an SLR to take those pictures...
And he has alot to show I see. Frank is a good guy, he has seen some of my pictures, but I don't need the masses to tell me I've taken a bad pic or two. I know I have.

Frank, good luck, you never know who will be following!

Now now boys and girls, if there is going to be chaos, please let it be orderly :-)

I haven't seen Frank's gallery, but that was bit below the belt and not called for IMHO

I can absolutely understand Frank's rationale in switching to the MKII and I wish him all the best.

Perhaps I detect the slightest bit of envy here.

....a lot of people shy away from the forums which is really sad as there
are some really helpful people in these forums.

Cheers,

This forum is OBVIOUSLY intended for people to share ideas and thereby learn from and HELP [NOT INSULT] each other.

Perhaps this forum is just not good enough for someone with your [self proclaimed] unlimited talent.

Do you require any assistance wiping all that egg of your face.

Alex makes a good point, evidently Frank's ist D didn't break down
under all that heavy use...

I think the reason Frank switched though, is that he does a lot of
fast action sports, and the ist D is certainly not up to anywhere
near the speed of the MK II, a very valid reason to switch, IMHO.

Best of luck,

Ed
I think the reason is "After much anguish and grief, bye *ist D"... Frank has already said that, even made it a "Subject" of this thread.

Got to respect the man though. When you can't handle the "Anguish and Grief" you can't.

I don't take picture for living, so what do I know about turnning Pro. My first Pentax was Spotmatic - I bought it in Thailand in 1969 when I was loading up the B-52 :)

I guess I'll stick with Pentax for a little while longer :)

Good Luck Frank

FYI:

zysgtc joined on June 10th and has posted two messages, both of them here. Can anyone explain why he chose to comment using this inflammatory style as his first(?) post? I believe you can name that individual in five letters. If you have trouble I will give you four letters to get you started...TROL?

How do you kill a troll? There are two ways; ignore it and/or laugh at it. As the sign at the zoo says "DO NOT FEED THE.......TROLLS!"

Frank, you enjoy your new tool, do good things with it, come see those of us who have enjoyed your posts showing those girls growing up. Drop in and show us some samples from time to time. Good Luck.

My gallery are my personal pics. How many pics have you had published? I've had quite a few. Let's put up or shut up if you are going to throw insults. I noticed you don't list a photo website, still trying to figure out how to unwrap your disposable? Seriously, let's see your website and let's see some of the pics you've gotten published.

Hey Frank

Give one last photo taken with the Canon showing you in tears having to give up the Pentax - want to see if you really are in real grief.

Seriously have always enjoye dyour inputs, comments and humour and not least of all your photographic contribution...
Are you disposing of any Pentax stuff?
Barry
After shooting and loving Pentax for over 11 years, I've put my
*ist D on ebay along with all my lenses. I decided it was simply
too much of a hassle to run two camera systems, Pentax and Canon.
So bye Ist D and I'll probably pick up a 10D as a backup.

I simply enjoyed the heck out of the *ist D and love the countless
pictures I have taken with it. I am only disappointed that Pentax
has no plans for a pro level camera, so I "settled" for the Canon
Mk2. Even after using the MK2, the Ist D just feels right in my
hands and the controls are so much easier to use. In contrast,
the MK2 is heavy and heavy and big and big. However, it fits my
needs as I am now taking commercial quantity pics.

Good luck with all your Pentax pics and I hope the new DSLR adds
more and more to the Pentax ranks, which will eventually lead
Pentax to a pro level camera.

Let us know when your lenses go on ebay!!

I have to say I hope Pentax can release a camera like the Mark 2 or even better.... I know I will buy it when it comes out, so its hard to blame you for upgrading now... I think you underestimate Pentax's little istD though, I've taken 5-6,000 pictures with it so far and it hasn't given me a single problem, so no doubt I am happy with the product.

Just remember to send us towards ebay or something when you sell the lenses, I for one am interested in anything you might have.

Sorry if everyone seems to be thinking I am/was upset with Frank or putting him down for his decision in any way. For what he needs to do, I think he made the right choice, for him.

I was really trying to "put the ist D up," definitely not "Frank down."

If that makes any sense!? :)

And as for the MK II doing 200,000 frames, $4500 divides up to about four Ist D's and assuming 50,000 frames, it's still about equal...

Shoot what you like, and don't worry, they'll make more! :)

Way to go, Frank, I'm with you!! I belong to those who'll miss you here, guess I'll have to sneak a peak in the Canon forum (ugh!) ;).

Take care!

Frank has already put his equipment up for sale on eBay. You better hurry, since it's possible to BuyNow. :)

Remembering my history from Tolkein, sunlight will also do the trick......
