A little off topic question to all you travelers out there. I will be flying tomorrow and planned on taking my camera and tripod. I will take the camera as a carryon. However, I was thinking if the tripod as a carryon could be hassle due to the hightened security, but I am afraid it might get damaged in the checked luggage. Anybody has traveled recently with their tripod? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Unless it's a very small, lightweight one, put it with your checked-in baggage. Strap it securely to the top of a suitcase.

Saves all the hassle.

Thinking about the usual problems with airport checked luggage, I would not strap it to the top of the suitcase, but instead put it inside the suitcase, or use a separate container (mailing tube perhaps) if it is too large for a suitcase.

If you have a suitcase large enough then that's the best solution.

I sometimes pack a large suitcase just with tripods and light stands/heads wrapped in beach towels :)

I usually just put mine in my suitcase amongst all my clothes. My wife gets upset because my clothes get wrinkled but hey - the tripod is ok!

Thanks everybody for the input. I'll play is safe and cover it with my wife's clothes... better a night in the sofa than a day without tripod right? LOL ;).
