I enjoy the Sportsshooter.com website and they use this word in some of their photo narration. Does anyone know what "chimping" means?

(all at once) HI TOM!

I chimp, too. If there's no other DSLR photogs around, I feel freer to chimp. But if there IS, well, you have to be careful ya know.

So what do you call it when P&S'ers shoot exclusively by watching the live preview? As in, "what's this small glass thingy back here for?"

We've all see 'em....
Soooo... chimping is... bad.... right?
My name is Tom and I chimp....

Heck, who doesn't? .... right? :)

It's someone who spends maybe $20/year to register a domain name,
like chimping.com, and maybe $5/month to a web hosting service just
to display exactly one picture (probably a self portrait) and
exactly one link to another web site.

Actually it reminds me of Tim Allen's "Men are Pigs" skit.

Just the idea of photographers actiing like apes around the camera and then acting like chimps while looking at the LCD is great :)

The most famous uniquely chimpanzee practice is that of putting a stick down an ant or termite hole and then pulling it out and licking off the ants or termites. Sort of like "trolling" for ants instead of fish. Hence, it would be more appropriate to call the actions of the owner of chimping.com "chimping."

like mine, if you use the 'small glass thingy back there' you miss
the shot entirely.
And if you have a Sony Mavica, then you don't miss the shot at all :)

I'm kind of wondering if Chimping is only for the Pros

It seems that "P&S'ers" chimp the whole camera "oo oo look, look at my new camera, oo oo.
