Once in a while, please check back several pages in the forum, for posts that may have been overlooked. Thanks!

Check out this site:

Almond highly regards both Noise Ninja and Neat Image. I chose Neat Image just for the convenience of a PSCS plug-in. PSCS is simply wonderful. Apart from using ZoomBrowser to download my pics, its the only software I use (including RAW conversion and noise reduction).

While on holiday I took some photos (lots actually). This one below is a good example. Its my three year old nephew who fell asleep sitting in the corner of the front section of the boat. This was taken with a Canon S50, 1/20, ISO 400. If you know anything about the S50 (or pretty much any P&S digicam) ISO 400 is really for emergencies only. The boat was moving so even at the widest aperture I had to get a reasonably fast shutter to avoid shake and I wanted natural light (filtering in from a hatch above left) rather than a flash. Noise reduction is then obviously aggressive which for a 100% crop will lose detail but luckily in most cases we resize anyway which tends to hide this problem.

Anyway, this is the starting image:

This is the Neat Image version:

This is a 100% crop of the same section of each picture from the unresized original:

Hope that helps.

I've used them all. And I've paid for a few...The best on BY Far is Noiseware! It rocks! I don't hesitate to use iso 800 because of it. There is a standard edition coming out that will most likely have to be paid for, but I bet it will be available with batch processing and the like.

The noiseware community edition is free. It is just a tad bit cumbersome because you can only clean 1 picture at a time and it wipes out the exif info. The new version(full) will not.

I have paid for the full version of neat image, and it works great. But there are instances where it makes the picture look plastic. Too much detail gets washed out. It is adjustable, but noiseware just does a better job....for me anyway.
Download them all and clean away...
Have fun with it.
