After using the 512mb Sandisk std. Card, I didn't expect the 2.0G std. card to support 640x480 30fps movies, but it does. The normal mode works continuously with no problem. In the fine mode, the red buffer full signal comes on briefly after 2 minutes, but I can't find any glitches in the movie playback. I didn't like the idea of paying more for memory than the camera and I'm happy with this combination.

that's interesting, perhaps the cards are from different production batches or series so one is just one side of acceptable and the other is just the other side.

After reviewing write speed performance in other cameras, I expected the 2.0g card to be faster than 512mb card with the same label.

It appears that larger capacity (higher density?) chip design and increased speed, to some extent, go hand in hand. With the Canon S1, the speed of my 2.0G card is adequate, whereas the 512mb card couldn't keep up with the camera's write speed for the highest resolution movies. I just wanted other S1 owners to know that the Ultra or Extreme versions of the 2.0G (and larger?) cards may not be necessary.

Hi Richdude, I am trying to maintain a chart for compatible CF with the S1. Will you please verify how long this card will record 640fine @ 30fps. It should be around 9m 30sec. I will update the chart on the Canon Forum
Please Email me.

Thanks
Ray
