I am currently trying out Qimage Pro and I have a question for those of you who are proficient at using it. I am trying to print a 4 X 6 photo and CANNOT get the program to completely cover the photo paper (Epson).

I can do it from Photoshop 5.0LE with no problems. I really love the program but unless someone can help, I will probably get rid of it. It's the trial version, not sure if this matters.

Sorry for being dense (just woke up), but are you completely trying to cover a 4x6 piece of paper or an 8.5x11 piece, or....? And, when you say completely cover, do you mean edge to edge with no white?

I've just sent in my registration I was so impressed with the demo. I have no problems, so hopefully I can try to help you. Oh yes, almost forgot, I'm using an Epson 777 with 'no name' photo paper I bought off of ebay. And I'm prinintg at 2880x720.

I purchased Epson paper that is slightly larger than 4 X 6 and has perforations around the edge, designed for edge-to-edge printing. When I use Photoshop 5.0LE, my picture is just slightly larger than 4 X 6 and covers the intended print area. My image settings in 5.0 are 4.5 X 6.5 and works great. When I try these settings in Qimage, the picture does not cover the intended area.

Don,
  • How are you setting up the page in Qimage? (margins, page size, etc)
  • Does the print area shown above the page preview on the main screen correspond to the page size that you have loaded in the printer? (it should be the size of the printable area: the paper size less the printer's absolute margins. If not, do a printer setup within Qimage).
  • How are you positioning the image on the page (there are several options: center, freehand, template, etc)?
  • Exactly what size print do you get when you print the 4.5 x 6.5? (is it 4.5 x 6.5?)
  • What version are you using? 12.05? If 12.05, and if you have set the margins to some finite value (not the default of 0) you might have encountered a known bug. (if so, get 12.01 beta 3, available at the support board). As a work around, set all page margins to 0, and position the image by free hand in the page edit screen. As you move it about, it will indicate the margin distances to the edge of the paper (not just to the printable area)
Finally, you might get better help by posting at the QIMAGE support forum, which you can get to by going to the Qimage web site, clicking on "support" and then clicking on the option:
"Subscribe to the Qimage Pro mailing list"

Its a forum over at Yahoo, and you can choose to view it as a message board (rather than an actual mailing list). Lots of Qimage experts there, including the author Mike Chaney, who will get back at you fairly quickly (even at nights and on weekends). (however, it is moderated, so posts can take an hour or two to show up).

Good luck.

I never printed with it. I use it solely for the D1 ISO noise removal feature.

Don,

are you using 12.05 (the latest version)? If so, you can print a 4 x 6 by setting your paper size in the printer set up (the button with the red wrench) and setting your print size in the defaults size underneath. Click the Center Placement button (the first in the series of buttons underneath the Page and Settings menu options). You can then select, drag and drop your images from the browser to the page layout. The images should arrange themselves according to your page size and the image size selected. If you do not like that layout, you can either click on the Optimize button (will rearrange the images to best suit the paper size) or you can manually place the images. There are, by the way, a number of ways to do this. I am using Photoshop 6.01 and use QImage quite a lot. The two best things going for it (aside from the technical aspects such as color profiling, etc.) are that it is cheap (currently only $35) and that price gives you a lifetime of free upgrades which, I have discovered, come almost more quickly than I can keep up with! In my opinion, even if you run photoshop, it is a good program to have. Hope this helps.

Opps. Just read this after I posted. You may want to check your pixel dimensions for the image. For instance, When I print a NEF (Nikon raw format from a D1), the pixel dimensions are 2008 x 1320 (you can check your images pixel dimensions by clicking once on the image and using the Ctrl+I key combo). If I want to print a 7 x 5 @ 300 dpi, I get only a true 6.69 X 4.40 (you will see this size in the image info in the queue box). To get a true 7 x 5, after I add the image to the queue, click once on the image, right click with the mouse and click on New Image Fitting and then Crop to Size. You will now see the image size in the queue info change to 7 x 5 (or whatever size you have entered as a print size). Using this method, you can manually scale up your print size (i.e. 4.25 x 6.25 - Epson Photo 4 x 6 paper is actually 4.2 x 6.2 and you would need to increase the print size to get border to border) and resize the image until you get the exact fit you want.
