What is your Must have Lens?

I have heard that it costs US$75,000 + tax and you can still get one it you want to wait a year for Nikon to manufacture it.
Thats the 1200-1700 I listed, in this picture it has the lens hood
on. I would prefer the VR version. lol
This monster must cost the price of a house!
It's like a bazooka. Watch out for backfire ;)

The 50 is a lens I don't want to like, if you know what I mean. It is supposed to be boring. It is not sexy, like an 85 F1.4. In fact I find it just the opposite. The 50 is a great focal length. The lens is small and light, quick focusing, very sharp and contrasty.

If I take only one lens on an outing, it is generally the 50 F1.8.
I always love to hear what lens people can't live with out!!

for me it is my sigma EX 70-200 f 2.8 I just love it!!

My next would be a mocro that I don't own yet :(
just can't make up my mind on the best one for me....

What's not to like about the 50mm lens?

Excels in low-light situations:

Can fake a wide angle perspective:

(ok, N/A on digital but you get instant short telephoto)

Is tack sharp when stopped down to at least f/2.8

And is one of the cheapest Nikkors you can get your hands on

For general purpose I always have the 50mm f/1.4 mounted on my camera.

Who cares how you get the shot; just photograph it and photograph it well

Sigma 12-24 for me too. Soon perhaps a 70-200 f/2.8 too, but at the moment I´ll manage with 12-24 and Nikkor 28-105 in most situations. 50mm f/1.8 is nice, but I am lazy to change the lens all the time, and I prefer wide (i shoot also only FF so 12 is 12, not 18...).

Isn't that too wide for a general purpose lens? I have the 18-35, and find that is too wide as my only lens.

Of course it all depends on what you are after. I tend to like head and shoulder portraits, or details from a scene.

Canon has an EF 28-300/3.5-5.6 L IS USM lens

Why don't Nikon offer us such a lens ?

Jan
The zoomrange is incredible but most posters here are into quality
and don't carry rond plastic consumer stuff unsless lazy. And if
they do carry it they won't admit.
Anyway your samples are not impressive but maybe a bit downsized so
difficult to judge.

gr Rob
Why is nobody mention this lens ?
Some pics with yhe Sigma AF 28-300/3,5-6,3 Asf. IF
