RUST - Are you in or out? (pic)

Bruce -

Thanks for the kind words. I've never posted pics in this forum, not having acquired a D70 yet (there are all kinds of rumors swirling around my July birthday, however). But I couldn't pass on a chance to put up a shot of rust. I've probably photographed every square inch of that train car in all kinds of light...

Love the train car shot. The blue hues next to the red rust works
very well and the wavy train siding is visually interesting.

I have allways been attracted to rust. Must be my magnetic personality :-)

Here is one of the few rust shots I have taken with my D70.

Most of my rust shots were taken with my Olympus C-2500L on Kauai at a place called Glass Beach which long ago it was the local dump. One side of it is made up of beautiful glass pebbles from the bottles being broken and polished by the waves. The other half is what is left of old cars, sugar cane hauling trucks and the like. This engine shot is from the car side.

I can't wait to get back there with my D70!

-Bruce

PS: I hope everyone has had their tetnis shots! ;-)

Don-

You must have a magnetic personality like mine ;-) I've been to Kauai dozens of times and there are thousands of incredibly beautiful things to shoot there, yet every time I go I am always drawn to the rusty beach..

Before I joined the digital photography revolution 2+ years ago and
stumbled upon dpreview, I never knew rust held any photographic
appeal - anyone has a theory on this?

Maybe, consider sharing a rusty favourite from your personal image

Bruce -

It's so funny that you would say that. My wife and I are both completely consumed with photography. She makes her living at it, and I can't wait to leave the office to start taking pictures. But she's a portraitist by trade, and in her spare time loves guerilla street photography. I feel like people just get in the WAY of what I want to photograph. She's at Quincy Market getting amazing shots of tourists and shoppers. And I'm off pursuing some assignment I've given myself, like photographing rust, or things I see in the gutter. To each his own I guess...

By the way, I particularly like your D70 rust shot. What are those, rivets? I cannot wait to get that camera. I freakin' DREAM about that camera every night!

Posted here before, but then again my rust collection is limited
:-) The shot below shows rust spots on a bannister in the harbor of
Bastia, Corsica. It was taken with an Olympus Camedia C3040Z, i.e.,
in my pre-D70 days.

Hi Guys,
Hope you don't mind a fuji bloke here... Am a regular lurker here
while I save the cash to get my D70. Sooo close now, if only
someone will buy my kidney from ebay then I'm there LOL...
Anyway old rusty machinery is fantastic. Snapped this pic with my
fuji 602 of an old holden rusting peacefully under a gum tree one
warm summers evening.
Cheers,
Tim

I found these contenders -- both appear to have lost -- in the mountains near Gourdon, France, literally in the middle of nowhere. I'd love to know the story... Anyway, these are Olympus C3040Z shots, and no, neither car is mine :-)
