I have checked several messages in this "canon talk" forum and in
the "open talk" forum. But my opinion about digital camera's is

changing. I read everywhere about hot pixels, bad quality pictures and several other problems with digital camera's.

I want to buy a canon s100 and want to take "normal" photo's
(landscapes, portraits enz.).

My question is: Can I make quite good quality pictures with the s100, without all the problems as hot pixels etcetera?

Have a look at my site:

http://home.planet.nl/~lumen003/home.html

There you will find pages on 4 cameras. There is a FAQ as well (G1 and 4900 pages).

To answer your question about hot pixels now: Hot pixels should not occur at shuttertimes shorter than 1 second. In other words, most types of photography will never show you those hot pixels. Only on longer exposures (needing a tripod or other support) may show some hot pixels.

A camera that shows a hot pixel at short exposures is a faulty one. It happens, but it's a small minority.

Geert,

If you are aware of its modest limitations, then you will not be disappointed with the S100. It is ideal for casual photography and can produce terrific prints up to 8X10.

To give you an idea, you can check out the images in this album which were all taken with the S100.
