A2 + Raynox 2.2X tele - Some pix

Thanks Roger! Very nice... better results than I would have expected froma 2.2x. Do you have any other TCs to compare it to? I am close to purchasing the ACT-100.. but was wondering your thoughts of the Raynox vs. the 1.4x Minolta TC.

Thanks,
Vance

Vance: I have used my old Olympus TCON 17, a 1.7X tele with my A2 with great success. Even this one shows very slight vignetting in the corners. But for my purposes it doesn't matter. I suspect the reason Minolta settled on 1.5X is that that is about the best you can do without dark corners unless you make a heroically big piece of glass. I hear that the Act-100 is a very good lens, but also very heavy (twice the weight of the TCON 17). So I would guess that the Raynox 1.4X is much lighter. Maybe that doesn't matter to you. With these long lenses, I always use a tripod and a remote shutter release. Since nothing moves, I turn off the antishake. I tried hand holding with AS on, but got motion blur. Maybe it's my technique, but I doubt it. If you want really sharp pix with long lenses, you have to eliminate the slightest motion. Roger

Yes, I am trying to make the same decision. Your picuture post has helped me considerably, thanks.

Where did you purchase your Raynox 2.2 and how long did it take to arrive?

How bad is the vignetting on the TCON-17?

So is it safe to say that all TCs over 1.5X will have a vignetting problem and possibly including the 1.5s if the glass is not large enough?

Do you have the firmware upgrade installed on your A2?
So, if you could only keep one... the TCON 1.7 or Raynox 2.2?

Vance: I guess it would be the TCON 17, as it seems more versatile.
What I really wish is that the A2 had a 10X or 12X built in. Maybe
on the A3?

arrive?------------------------------------------
It took a week and cost $199 + shipping.
How bad is the vignetting on the TCON-17?----------------------------
Barely noticeable.

I expect so, except I bet the Minolta 1.5 does not.
Do you have the firmware upgrade installed on your A2?----------------------
No. Yet the auto focus, and auto exposure and AS(less tested) all seem to work. Of course

in the pix data the wrong focal length is reported because it doesn't know about the tele.

Roger thanks very much. I guess I will go with the TCON-17. I tried the ACT 100 Minolta 1.5 and yes it has no vignetting from 100 -200mm. Below 100 it is mechanical not the lens. But that is one big and heavy piece of glass!!
