I wish NikonCapture Editor had the following features:

When opening a Multi Image Window, I would love to see which images (RAW) have already been modified, for instance with an * next to the name, like it is done in NikonView.

The possibility to generate B&W images from RAW files in NC.

The possibility to assign only some parameters (i.e. mainly size/res or sharpening) ON TOP of saved modifications in Batch mode: one can achieve this by copy/paste in Multi Image Image window, but not in Batch mode.

The possibility to add a watermark in batch mode, a la Picture Shark (going from NEFs to JPEGs / TIFFs).

I wish you can correct the horizon tilt when cropping. 90% of the time I use PSCS just to correct a picture that is off axis.

How about sophisticated Noise Reduction and upsize interpolation functions built-in. Or how about a stitching tool, save-for-web function, and more sophisticated batching. I would like to be able to do all of my editing in one program. I really like the B&W idea, especially if it could emulate the look of some high quality films.

To make it a Panacea tool, take capture, photoshop, Noise Ninja, and some interpolation software and combine them all together. We can dream can't we?

Let's try not to discourage the software guys @ Nikon....

But I quite agree on the noise reduction part: why buy a third party product, with special Nikon profiles? All this could / SHOULD be done in Capture.

As far as interpolation is concerned why not a plug-in structure to allow working with Altamira Fractal Pro?

I believe PhotoShop use should be limited for actual touching up, applying special effect filters... in other words for photo ALTERATIONS, not for getting the most out of your digital negative (RAW).

I wish there was a way of fine tuning the white balance of an image while keeping the white balance set to "recorded value" . For Example if you take a shot with the white balance set to "cloudy" and open the image in capture, the white balance is listed as "recorded value" but the fine tuning slider bar is "greyed" out, if you then change the white balance setting to "daylight" you can then fine tune that setting with the bar but only because you changed the original setting from recorded value to daylight. If anyone knows a work around that allows the use of the slider bar while keeping the recorded value I would love to know it.

Dave

Dave, I wish the same thing. My workaround for now is to use the checkbox on the WB adjustment when modifying the WB. I choose a good approximation of the recorded value, then click the checkbox On and Off to evaluate the preview. While doing this, I can adjust the slider to change the variation between the recorded and "new" WB.

It would be nice if there where commandline parameters to do batch processing.

Then i will be able to extent my script file to do the batch processing and make archiving of my pictures complete automatic (except from branding the CD).

I wish it would run faster on my old computer.
And even faster when I buy a new one.

What I find useful under those conditions is to set grey point using marquee. I appears to allow fine tuning of the reordered value as apposed to starting form zero.

The other thing I find useful "though only generally related" is to put the show lost highlight display to on and the peck around with set white point dropper.

What an awesome collection of band photos! I just stated looking and I know I won't be sleeping much tonite!! That's a LOT of content!! Way Cool !!!

Dave

I'll come-up with my wish list for Capture.

For now, i just wish it could preview NEFs rapidly like Photo Mechanic which I demoed and will likely buy

DEE needs tweaking so that 1) its faster
2) you can change multiple parameters (both shadow & highlight) and
THEN press Go/Enter, instead of doing them one at a time
3) a preview box

I would like to see an optical correction tool, just like the fisheye correction for the 10.5mm, but user modifiable, for example , to correct the 16mm nikkor, and other fisheye lenses.

1/ After setting black, grey or white points and then hitting the Auto Contrast, you should be able to UNDO the auto contrast without affecting the pevious settings. Very annoying when you have to start again with the droppers.

2/ to show percentage of pixels that are over/under the limits when using the black/white sliders (I'm not sure what this is called...)

3/ ability to change (or at least append) certain exif data ie. date and time (daylight saving and a trip to europe stuffed me up! My dumb fault....lol...)

4/ automatic generation of 6-8 thumbnail previews that the software generates so you can pick the best one as a starting point (I think PS has this feature)

5/ smarter sharpening tools

6/ perspective and bow control

7/ comprehensive hue and saturation control

8/ and all the suggestions of the other posts......
