I looked a lot at standard ball mounts and all most got one, then a forum member on the talk forum got the Manfrotto 3265 and said it was the best thing sense sliced bread... Well I took a look at it and was just not sure, the man at the camera store told me I would love it and it would hold the E1 and 50-200 with no problem...

I got it and they were right, I love it and it holds the the E1, Fl-40 flash and bracket, and the 50-200 at any point I want. It is very fast, squeeze the handle and move it where you want...... Let go and it stays right there.

I have the same 3265 as you Bill + a 3221WN Tripod. Works like a dream and is dead easy to center on the levelling bubble.

Unfortunately I can't quite bend my 14-54MM lens enough to take a self-portrait of the kit - am experimenting with a mirror.

I looked at the Manfrotto, two different ones, can't remember the model numbers now. I admire their quality and I have a Manfrotto tri-pod. I wasn't considering Velbon at all but when I picked it up I simply fell in love. It also has a sling attached that makes it a dream to toss over the shoulder for walking around when you need it.

Manfrotto 3444 Carbon one tripod and the new 322RC2 vert. or horiz. grip action ball head. It is a light and compact combo for trekking and birding and the grip action head is very quick!

Cool. I'm liking light and treck friendly, thats the reason I couldn't put the NEO POD down. I like the grip action head idea too, but it makes more sense for a tripod, at least to me.

...but I purchased my Bogen 3211 Tripod in 1980 for $89 and the Linhof ballhead I got for $10 at a garage sale in 1985. It works well enough for me. The stuff you guys have looks a wee bit more advanced though!

Goes to the quality of Bogen I would say... and to your wise shopping !

Lets see $89 in 1980... mmm, roughly $200 in today's bucks... minus 24 years of use... not a bad deal at all.
