Photoing along just fine, periodically stoppiing to review. About the 49th pic on a Lexar 256 meg stick, received message: "file error". So I put a different stick in. Later when I tried again to read the 256 stick, message became: "format error" (or something like that). Can I recover the pix? Is the stick a bad one? (Never had problem with Lexar's 128 meg at all. (Need pix for school yearbook.)

I lost some images recently, didn't even get a message, just gone. (I havn't done the firmware upgrade on my 828 yet and I think the issue was related to that). I used a freeware program called Zero Assumption Digital Image Recovery to get them back. It was super slow, but it recovered them. Gotta do that upgrade...

Sorry, forgot to tell you I'm using 717, but the issue is the same, I think. Where did you get the freeware?

Hey, what´s up with Lexar memory!?

I've been using CF cards for the last four years and have never had any problems, but two weeks ago my Lexar 256Mb 8x CF card died on me and my Sony DSC-F828. All Images lost forever because the card was completely dead..

I immediately ordered a 512Mb Sandisk CF card instead to replace my broken 256Mb one... ..and just after I did that I realised that I probably could do a warranty claim with Lexar..

I must say that Lexar have a great service plan, all I had to do was to visit their website, chat for a couple of minutes with a support person, recieved phone numbers etc. to a couple of dealers here in sweden.

After discussing my problem on the phone with the dealer and sending them my broken card I got a brand new one in return.

All this in less than a week..

I have absoluitely nothing to complain about when it comes to the support but what do the STF comunity say, when buying CF of MS should one avoid Lexar?

ps. Johna: sorry for going slightly OT here.. ;-)

Sorry to hear it. I had the same thing happen a few months ago with a Lexar 256 Mb Select in my 717. The camera reviews on the Imaging Resources site routinely recommend recovering lost images with PhotoRescue: http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue

The free demo version will analyze your card and tell you if anything can be recovered. You then need to buy the program (about $29 USD) to actually recover them. They guarantee that they can successfully recover anything the demo version shows. In my case, I had to tinker with settings for a bit, but did eventually recover all but 3 out of 50 images. Your results may vary depending on what's wrong.

As for the Lexar, it was pretty much shot and wouldn't format anymore. Fortunately, Lexar has a 5 year warranty and they replaced it without any problems. I've also never had any problems with Memory Stcks and CF cards in various sizes.

Well, I downloaded a program and was able to recover 40 or the 49 or so I took. But the stick wouldn't format, so I took it back to OfficeMax and they gave me another without any problems. Of course, I buy there a lot. I think I used something called Photorecover; anyhow, it worked well. (But not sure the photos were worth the $30!) Hey, BTW. The replacement stick is 256, and has an A-B switch, along with a lock on the back. How do I use the A-B switch? I mean, do I count the number of pics on A, then switch to B? The package contained no instructions whatsoever.

Bah! I've had a "dead" Lexar 256mb (128mb x2) memory stick sitting in my drawer for months now. When I looked before at their web site I couldn't find warranty or contact info, went back upon reading this thread and see they have updated. Ok, start typing the e-mail, now what was that error message exactly again? .... guess what, card's working perfectly now.

I've played with it at least 3 times since the problem first occurred, always it said something like 'memory stick error' when inserted, no format option available, nothing. must have just been a charge stored somewhere in it that has finally drained off.

well, ummm, thanks for fixing my card, I guess :-)

From what I read here at STF, one would monitor the space left in the camera display, or just wait until the camera said it has no space to save the image. Pop the MS out and slide the switch and carry on. I don't own one, but I believe this is the solution. Someone correct me if I'm wrong! or confirm!
