Just bougt my D-70 and Im pretty happy with it nut nows there s problem when it comes to flashes is it true that you can only use the SB-800 or 600. I need a flash thats good for all around photography becuae I shoot weedings and press kits for rockbands any information would be apriciated.

Cheers,
Gary

Buy one. You won't regret it. There is no equivalent with the Canon system that works as well.

Since I'm a former Rebel owner too, how is the 550EX Canon flash not as good as the sb-800.

Just curious,

Thanks

Here is a good article discussing the capabilities of the SB-800:

1. The SB800 can be used wirelessly off camera in iTTL mode, triggered by just the camera's pop-up flash. This is really amazing and works very well.

2. The SB800 uses an iTTL metering system that incorporates distance information from the lens to ensure that the metering system is not as easily fooled.

3. The SB800 has the option for being used in Auto mode, in addition to iTTL and Manual.

4. If you look at the Canon forums, you'll read a ton of posts from people who are unhappy with the at least perceived inconsistency of the 550EX in TTL mode. Lots of pros who use the Canon system have gone to using auto mode Sunpak flashes because they find the metering so inconsistent with the 550ex. Although the SB800 is admittedly newer, most users so far seem thrilled with its metering accuracy. In my experience so far, the metering is virtually foolproof.

5. One downside to the SB800 I should mention is that the preflash causes a small percentage of subjects to blink with the actual exposure. I haven't noticed the problem personally, but others have reported it in the forums.
Just curious,

Thanks

I just use my SB-28 and am happy with it. Maybe someday, I will sell my Rebel, and film body and get the SB-800.
