depends on your needs. From what I understand the Pintdock only prints 6x4 sized prints, though from reading peoples comments they are really good. With a normal printer you can use different sized papers, A4 to A6 etc. or larger depending on the printer.

I personally prefer a seperate printer and I have an Epson printer with a card reader built in, very usefull, if I really feel inclined I can print straight from the card without using my PC.

You might also want to conisder running costs of a dock versus a ordinary printer re inks etc.

Buy the Printer Dock 6000 (or wait for the new model in June), the quality of prints is unsurpassed. So easy to use and doubles as a charger for the camera and makes life easy transferring pics to the pc. No messy battery removal or cable swapping.

The Kodak prints use thermal dye sublimation, which produce better prints than inkjets.

I have a good quality Epson and only use that if i have need to print larger than 6x4 size pics. The quality is almost as good as the Kodak, but the extra work in setting it up (paper, flushing heads on startup, etc) is not as conducive for me to make use of it.

The Epson can read memory cards directly, but i can't be bothered taking it out of the camera. Would rather print from the mac.

When the June model of the Kodak printer dock comes out i will prabably upgrade to that as it offers a few extra features which will make me use it even more.

Cost of 6x4 prints for the Kodak and Epson are about the same, but the Epson is dearer to run. Kodak costs have dropped from $1 (aud) per print to $.75, not quite as cheap as the $.47 K-Mart option, but I will always pays extra for the convenience.

Simone,

The main reason for getting the printer dock is convenience. It is so easy to just push a button and out pops your picture. Actually it is out, in, out, in, out, in, out because of the layered printing process.

I would not agree that the prints are better than what comes out of an ink jet printer. They have a different quality is all. If you just use the push button printing, you don't have any control over exposure, color, or sharpness. I understand that you have a few more options if you use a computer to print from but I have not seen what that is like.

Essentially, Tom, if the dock is hooked up to the pC, you can tfr the pictures to whatever program you wish to doctor, fix, etc., then print on the dock using it as a normal printer (limited to 4 by 6, of course).

I believe that ,picture for pciture, my HP photo printer does a better job, even tho it's a lot slower. Colors come out more vivid, and a tad clearer.
Of course, that's one person's opinion.
I rarely use my PD except for prints if Im in a hurry.

I heard the Canon 960 is great- will ck it out soon, to replace my slow (but great!) HP 7350

This is my first day using the printer dock. I bought it because this printing process adds a protective laminate to the photo. My hp inkjet printer does not do this - maybe better quality inket printers do???? I really like the printer dock, but if I could only have one printer, I would probably stay with my HP so that I have the option of printing larger than 4 x 6. Good luck with your decision.

Simone,

I like the versatility of my Epson printer being able to print in a number of different sizes, from full A4 down to passport size. Also I have purchased a chip re-setter and after market 'Epson Blend' inks and refill my cartridges for 10% of the cost of original Epson cartridges. I have not had any problems with clogged nozzles and the reproduction is equal to Epson original ink. I have also purchased expensive professional laser produced pics that are now fading, my reproductions are as good as the day I printed them.
Cheers,
Rob

Hi, Simone,

First, please note that I've only had my printer dock for 1 day so I do not have a lot of experience. My main concern with my hp printer was the durability of the photos. I have three children (accidental spills on the tables, messy fingers, etc.) The ink on the hp prints will smear if water is spilled on the print. I held a print from the Kodak printer dock under running water and then rubbed the print - it looks as good as new. I believe I will print all my 4 x 6 with the printer dock. It is very easy and convenient. The quality is acceptable to me. Have you seen any prints made from the printer dock? I would suggest that you see a demonstration at a store if possible to see if the quality is what you expect.

we purchased a printer dock 6000 and I cant beleave the ease of printing a 4x6 picture. the quality was and is fantastic! We have an epson and now unless I would like a larger print than 4x6 it will never print pictures again.
with the color fast and the water proofness of the pictures, its the way to go!

I'm so happy we have this little printer . the best buy out there ! e-bay special... you can pick them up for 103$US

really for that money you cant go wrong!

just my 2 cents
