Post your best Kit Lens Portraits

She was in the box when I bought it. jsut added water and she grew out of the packaging. She only lasted a few weeks though so I now have a new one.

What's your best portrait taken with the 300D (Rebel) and Kit Lens?

Here is mine although I am very, very sure there will be many
examples to put this to shame. (Wish I'd had a longer lens when
wandering around Tokyo when this was shot).

The one thing that impresses me about the kit lens - for the price
  • is flexibility. Wide angle / reasonable close-ups and credible
portraits.

Thanks

Marcus

Looks like the focus point is on the nose, or his head, or...actually I can't tell for sure but it causes the eyes to be OOF. There are some distracting hot spots. The backgroud is very distracting. Looks a bit dull and (at least on my monitor) and looks under exposed. There is also a lot of noise. What ISO did you take this at? Could you post the EXIF?

I dodn't mean to sound hard. Just my .02. You asked.

I shot this handsome guy on the second day since I got the DR.

It is actually a candid. Thanks for the comments. As I just looked at the pic carefully, I found I must have focused on his nose. Hahahaha. He sold a car to me, so I gave him a shot. I forgot the EXIF. Sorry.

A rose for you. Enjoy. :)

Hmmm, as I look at this I noticed I put up the early version ( I cloned out the other background people for my printable version of this), but to answer your question- all this version has is default Neat Image and a bit of USM...

Exif:
focal length: 33mm
1/40 sec
f/5

iso 1600 (this was an accident- i had just finished taking lower light shots of the recital and had left the camera on 1600! Duh! I wish ISO was shown in the viewfinder!!) Anyways, the ISO1600 was the reason I needed a touch of Neat Image...

Well... if you could have gotten the goth girl to fly, and taken a
good, sharp picture of her in the air with a 70-200mm 2.8 lens...
well... MAYBE it would be different... but NO... all she does is
SIT there.

;)

N.
I see her as flying through the air, a cat in one hand and a duck in the other. Now THAT would be a real shot. Worth 120 posts MINIMUM! Shoot her with the BIGMA and...oh magawd!, we've moved to a continuation thread!

Seriously, its a great shot. Looks like an interesting lady. Well done on capturing her essence.

The background in this scene is uninteresting, but the skin tones and sharpness came out exceptionally well.
