Ok I'll admit it I'm waitting for a buddy of mine to come over to pick up my rototiller and decided to take a couple of pictures and it occured to me that all the fancy flowers out their we always over look the lowly Dandelion and why not see what this forum can do to change its image. Its a speciman that I'll bet all have access to Here are my 2 submissions. Dawn and Uncle Frank if they so desire can choose the winner of the 1st Dandelion Challenge soon to be followed by the Foamboard Dandelion Challenge. The winner should recieve a one year supply of Weed and Feed.

You have 24hrs to produce your best picture starting.......................Now!!! Good Luck everyone

Ours haven't opened all the way yet - here's looking straight down on one. Garden hose in background.

Charles -- I love the second composition. Nice contrasts. I think I would crop out the unopened (or spent) bud to the right of the open yellow bloom, though. It's competing for attention. BTW, the focus on the first one and the colors are exceptional! Nice job!

I'll bet there will be so many submissions, it will be impossible to decide a winner. Maybe everyone submitting a Dandelion pic should just commit to providing feedback to at least one or two other submissions. That way, everyone has fun, everyone tries their hand at their best Dandelion shot, and everyone gets the benefit of giving and getting feedback. What do you think? Just a thought.

It's funny you picked this topic. I've been working hard on a Dandelion FCB that ranks right up there with one of my toughest assignments.

Dawn, I think its a fine idea, I just wanted to have some fun with something so ordinary. I have to admit on the 2nd photo I got this creative idea of getting the 3 stages of a Dandelions life, of course I left out the white fuzzy stage... I can't wait to see the foamboard photo you are working on. Tough buggers to capture, need alot of depth of field.

It's the fuzzy stage that's really tough with FCB. I like the idea of the three stages of a Dandelion's life. I'm doing something along those lines with my Peony. I'm taking a pic of it every day so I can show the stages of the bloom opening. Hasn't changed much over the past 4 days though! ;-)

Thanks, Chuck.

I really like the serene quality of this pic, and I think it's a combination of the goose feeding and the tranquil quality of a field of Dandelions.

You know, I never knew that geese ate grass until I watched them closely a couple weeks ago. Guess that explains the color of their, well, you know...;-)

Beautiful scenery, Jim. I wonder if you might clone out the tall tower in the background. The sky portion should be easy, and trees can be pretty forgiving. That way you could crop down the sky and allow the field of Dandelions to occupy the bottom 2/3 of the frame, bringing more attention to them as they lead the viewer's eye toward the barn and silo. This would also take your horizon out of the center of the frame and place it on one of those "thirds" from "the rule of thirds." Maybe even crop off the right side up to the outermost pine tree. I know it sounds harsh, but I think it might strengthen your composition. Just a thought.

Thanks for the comments. I do have others I took in which I composed more for the field leading up to the barn, with much better horizon lines. But I really never thought of cloning out the tower! I reckon now I'll have to give it a try lol!
God Bless,
Jim
