Hi,
I have a strange story.

I got a used camera on Ebay. The guy that sold it to me sad that it had an Error 99 and was on the warranty, but he did not have time to fix it.

So I sad to my self for that price! I can have it fixed.

So I go the camera with the lens and surely enough, focusing in the low light it was giving me the error 99 every 3ed time.

Than I got home and downloaded the firmware from Canon reloaded the camera, wiped all the contacts on the body, and 1500 images after that, have not see one of this errors.

I am a programmer my self and I know how the setup can go wrong one to many ways, so reloading the software usually helps to solve most problems, especially if your error 99 is not a consistent problem and dose not happen every time you push a button.

So there you go, If you get an ERROR 99 try to reload software on the camera, before you send you bellowed piece of plastic to Canon and let them hold it for 7-10 days.

Thanks.

Good tip!

I "fixed" a lots of computer motherboards simply be re-flashing the BIOS, sometimes it just gets corrupted. (sunspots or solar-storms :-)

Hi,
There is usually a pattern to it.
Focusing in low light on Av mode or something like it.
If it goes away with simply shutting down the camera and putting it back on,
You may benefit greatly from reflashing you software on the camera.
Thanks.

I've heard this before. What does sunspots and solar-storms have to with anything?
Good tip!

If you had this before, that means you got rid of it?
Am I correct?
And how did you do it?
Any other problems?

P.S. sunspots and solar-storms supposedly create splashes off electro magnetic

waves that can and sometimes will ruing your hard drive or any other electro magnetic storage. (To my limited knowledge)
So it may have affected the software stored in the camera.

Try 3-4 weeks, i got another error 99 today after about 100 pics or so, i'll try reflashing it, did you just load the firmware to a flash card and stick it in the camera?
